Indiana Fever vs. Atlanta Dream: Picks, Predictions and Odds

Indiana Fever are learning how to win without Caitlin Clark, which means her return could make the team that much stronger.

That is good news for Indiana, which may get its second-year superstar back Tuesday night for the Fever’s game at Atlanta at 7:30 PM ET.

Clark has missed four games with a left quad strain suffered at the end of a 90-88 defeat to the defending WNBA champion New York Liberty.

The team lost its first two games with her out of the lineup, but defeated the Washington Mystics at home on Tuesday, 85-76, before flattening the Chicago Sky, 79-52, on the road Friday night to improve to 4-4.

Kelsey Mitchell has played well in Clark’s absence, averaging 20.5 points the last two games. She is second to Clark (19 ppg, 9.3 apg) in scoring with 17.4 points per game. Aliyah Boston is going for 15.3 points, while her 7.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.6 blocks all lead the Fever while Clark has been out.

Atlanta is 5-3 and third in the league right now, but the Dream suffered a disappointing loss Friday night to the Connecticut Sun, 85-76.

In a 91-90 win over the Dream earlier this season, Indiana got 27 points and 11 assists from Clark, 24 points and 10 rebounds from Boston, and 24 points from Mitchell.

Brittney Griner had 21 points and eight rebounds, Rhyne Howard added 20 points, and Jones contributed 19 points and 13 rebounds in that game. Allisha Gray had 16 points and six assists.

Atlanta got its revenge two days later, winning 81-76, as Howard had a team-high 24 points and Jones added 15 points and 11 rebounds. Natasha Howard had 26 points and seven rebounds to lead the Fever, while Mitchell chipped in with 17 points.

Who will win the teams’ third meeting this season? Below are our experts’ picks and predictions for tomorrow night’s matchup.

Indiana Fever vs. Atlanta Dream betting picks and predictions

Atlanta Dream -2.5 (-110)

Nobody wants to see Clark back on the court more than her teammates, but after missing four games and several players stepping up and assuming higher workloads in certain areas, the will-she-won’t-she narrative behind Clark suiting up tomorrow night could impact the Fever.

Additionally, the Dream should be ticked coming off a loss to a Sun team that proceeded to lose to the Mystics by 37 points. Brittney Griner had 18 points and six rebounds, and Rhyne Howard added 16 points and six assists as Atlanta’s four-game win streak was snapped by their rebuilding opponents.

Allisha Gray is fifth in the league in scoring at 20.1 points per game, followed by Howard with 17.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists. Two veteran newcomers, Griner (13.2 ppg, 6.3 rpg) and Brionna Jones (12 ppg, 8.9 rpg) have revamped the Dream’s interior.

These two teams have played each other twice already, with each team winning on the road in two contests played over three days last month.

While the road team has won the first two games this year, look for the host Dream to win and cover as 2.5-point home favorites.

Over 166.5 total points (-110)

The Dream (84.6 ppg) and Fever (84.5) are two of the WNBA’s top-three scoring teams. Atlanta and Indiana totalled 181 points the first time out before coming back to Earth and combining for 157 in the second game.

Atlanta is allowing 81 points a game, so the team will need to get everyone going at the offensive end to keep pace. Indiana has struggled inside against Griner and Jones in the first two outings.

If Clark returns, she could immediately jumpstart Indiana’s offense. If she’s out, look for Mitchell to stay hot.

Kelsey Mitchell Under 17.5 points (-125)

Speaking of Mitchell, the eighth-year guard out of Ohio State is having another steady season for the Fever.

The two-time All-Star has steadied the ship in Clark’s absence. She is averaging 17.4 points for the season, but is heating up lately, going for 41 points combined in Indiana’s two previous games, both wins.

She has also scored 41 points in two games versus the Dream this season, but the experts know that she has only scored more than 17.5 points twice this season.

Look for her to score in the 13-to-17-point range like she has throughout this season and stay Under that critical 17.5-point number.
