Indiana Fever vs. Atlanta Dream: Picks, Predictions and Odds

Two teams hoping to take the next step this season meet up for the second time in three days when Caitlin Clark, Aliyah Boston and the Indiana Fever travel to Atlanta to take on Allisha Gray, Brittney Griner and the Dream at State Farm Arena.

Clark was everything the Fever and the WNBA could have imagined and more last season.

The former Iowa Hawkeye averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, and 5.7 rebounds while shooting 41.7% from the field to win the league’s Rookie of the Year Award and finish fourth in the MVP voting, while also making her first All Star team.

She’s already showing those were just beginner numbers as Clark is going for 23.5 points, 10.5 assists, and 7.5 rebounds in the first two games of her second season as Indiana is 1-1.

Clark had 20 points and 10 assists in the Fever’s 93-58 opening-night victory over the Chicago Sky, then followed it up with 27 points and 11 assists against the Dream Tuesday evening.

The Fever came up short in that contest, however, as Rhyne Howard’s two free throws with 9.1 seconds left gave Atlanta a 91-90 victory, withstanding Indiana’s fourth-quarter surge. Howard finished with four 3-pointers and 20 points for the Dream, who are also 1-1.

Griner led Atlanta with 21 points and also added eight rebounds. The 11-year Phoenix Mercury veteran joined the Dream in the offseason and is second on the team with 19.5 points and eight rebounds in her first two games with the team.

Brionna Jones had 19 points and 13 rebounds against Indiana and leads the team with 11.5 boards per contest while adding 17.5 points per game.

Gray, who had 16 points and six assists Tuesday evening, leads Atlanta in scoring at 20.5 points per game.

Boston had 24 points and 10 rebounds for Indiana Tuesday night. She is going for 21.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game while Kelsey Mitchell, who had 24 points against the Dream, is averaging 19.5 points.

Tuesday’s game was deflating for the Fever, but that is now history and below are our experts’ picks and predictions for this matchup.

Indiana Fever vs. Atlanta Dream betting picks and predictions

Atlanta Dream +4 (-110)

The Dream needed to add some toughness down low after two straight first-round losses in the WNBA playoffs. They did that with the addition of Griner, who averaged 17.7 points and 7.4 rebounds in 317 games with the Mercury.

New coach Karl Smesko is also looking for smarter and stronger crunch time play from his team, which has not posted a winning record since 2018.

The Fever reached .500 and the postseason for the first time in eight years in 2024. Indiana then brought back coach Stephanie White, who led the team to the WNBA finals in 2015 and that last postseason appearance in 2016 ahead of last season.

These two teams have the talent and depth to at least make things uncomfortable for the more established teams ahead of them in the standings and Atlanta could send a strong early season message with two wins in three days over Clark and Indiana.

While a win is by no means guaranteed, our experts like Atlanta to at least cover the 4-point spread as underdogs.

Under 174 points (-110)

Indiana was the third highest scoring team in the league last year at 85 points a game and are averaging 92 through its first two contests this season.

However, the Fever also had the second worst scoring defense last season, allowing 87.7 points per game.

A dominating performance against a Chicago side expected to be one of the league’s worst aside, Indiana allowed 91 in the loss to Atlanta Tuesday night.

The Dream were the league’s worst scoring team in 2024, averaging 77 points a game. With the addition of Griner the results are already positive, with the team averaging 90.5 points through two contests.

But this is the second game in three nights, the third game in less than a week to open the season for the two teams.

Our experts expect just enough of a letdown to keep the total under 174 points in this contest.

Aliyah Boston Over 14.5 points (-130)

With Clark headlining Indiana every time out, it’s easy to forget the Fever’s other recent Rookie of the Year recipient.

Boston was the first overall pick in 2023 and has produced consistently since suiting up, averaging over 14 points and nearly nine rebounds in her first two years in the league.

She is upping her numbers early this season in at least a brief indication she is ready to take her game to the next level. She had 19 points and 13 rebounds opening night against Chicago before her 24-point, 1-rebound effort Tuesday night against the Dream.

Our experts expect Boston to stay at this next level of production and score more than 14.5 points.
