Dallas Wings vs. Chicago Sky: Picks, Predictions and Odds

The Chicago Sky host the Dallas Wings on Thursday night at 8 PM ET with both teams looking for some kind of spark to take into the rest of the season.

Dallas, coming off a putrid 9-31 2024 campaign that netted them Paige Bueckers with the first overall pick in this year’s WNBA Draft, picked up its first win Tuesday night.

After dropping its first four decisions, including two losses against the undefeated Minnesota Lynx, the Wings defeated the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday night, 109-87. Bueckers scored a career-high 21 points and added seven assists and five rebounds while veteran Arike Ogunbowale added 19 points and six steals, with DiJonai Carrington contributing 16 points.

Dallas will look to start its first win streak of the season at Chicago, which is showing early that last season’s 13-27 mark may be wishful thinking this campaign.

Chicago continued its winless start Tuesday with a 94-89 defeat at the Phoenix Mercury. Ariel Atkins was the first Sky player in four games to top 20 points. She led Chicago with 21 points, followed by Kamilla Cardoso with 16 points and nine rebounds and Angel Reese with 13 points and 15 rebounds.

Courtney Vandersloot had 15 points and 11 assists and Kia Nurse chipped in with 14 points as all five Sky starters reached double figures.

Will Dallas keep the momentum rolling, or will the Sky finally get into the win column? Below are our experts’ picks and predictions for tonight’s matchup.

Dallas Wings vs. Chicago Sky betting picks and predictions

Dallas Wings -1.5 (-115)

Dallas has been competitive against a tough early season schedule, and broke through with a 109-point output in Connecticut on Tuesday. Bueckers (14.6 PPG, 6.4 APG) has already shown she belongs, as expected, and she pairs up with Ogunbowale (13.8 PPG) nicely.

The Wings are fifth in the league in scoring, averaging 84 points a game. Their defense, 11th in the league in points allowed at nearly 87 a game, needs improvement. And it should start moving in the right direction tonight against Chicago.

The Sky have been woeful early on, averaging just under 75 points, which is 11th in the league, and allowing a league-worst 94.3 points a game. They are simply getting pummeled at that end of the floor. All four opponents have recorded between 91 and 99 points against them. Even with the close five-point defeat to Phoenix, Chicago is losing by an average of nearly 20 points a game.

Atkins leads the Sky in scoring at just 12.2 points a game, and the Sky just aren’t getting enough offensive production inside from second-year players Cardoso (10.3 PPG, 6.5 RPG) and Reese (10 PPG, league-high 14 RPG). Vandersloot, a 14-year veteran and last remaining player from the 2021 championship team, is still going strong with 11 points and 5.2 assists per contest.

But it’s just not enough right now. The team’s offensive performance has consistently improved, from 58 points in a season-opening thrashing against the Indiana Fever to 89 against the Mercury Tuesday.

Even if Chicago continues in that same direction, our experts are looking for Dallas to win and cover the 1.5-point spread as favorites.

Over 170.5 points (-110)

This pick reflects a belief that Chicago will indeed continue to display offensive improvement, while recognizing the team still can’t stop anyone. Bueckers is finding her shooting touch – she shot 80% (8-for-10) Tuesday against the Sun – and tonight could be her first big scoring performance.

And Ogunbowale, the four-time All-Star, is due for a big scoring night as well as she is currently averaging more than eight points less than last season.

Pair that with Cardoso hitting double digits in back-to-back games and Atkins starting to get on track offensively, and our experts expect a high-scoring affair tonight. Look for the teams to total more than 170.5 points.

Paige Bueckers over 15.5 points (+105)

The 21-point effort against Connecticut on Tusday was Bueckers’ breakout game, but tonight could be where she announces herself as one of the league’s top scorers right now.

She has scored 10, 19, 12, 11, and 21 points in that order. And now, after two subpar shooting performances, she appears to have found her stroke.

Our experts expect Bueckers to have a big game tonight and tally more than 15.5 points for the third time this season.
