Chicago Sky vs. Minnesota Lynx: Picks, Predictions and Odds

The Chicago Sky travel to Minnesota on Sunday evening to face the Lynx for the first time this season at 7 PM ET.

The Lynx sit atop the WNBA standings at 16-2. Minnesota has won four straight and is a perfect 10-0 at home in regular season play.

Chicago, conversely, is 12th in the league standings at 5-11. However, the Sky have won two of their last three games. They are 3-7 on the road.

Minnesota’s Napheesa Collier (24.5 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 1.5 bpg), the 2024 WNBA MVP runner-up, leads the league in scoring and has paced the Lynx in each of the last four regular season games, scoring 22 or more in those contests. She had just seven points in the team’s Commissioner’s Cup Championship game loss to the Indiana Fever in the middle of this four-game win streak.

Collier, who was out earlier this season with a back injury, is critical for a Minnesota team that is motivated for another postseason run after falling to the New York Liberty in five games in the WNBA Finals last season.

Kayla McBride is second on the team in scoring at 15.1 points per game and she continues to be as potent a three-point threat as there is in the league, making 2.7 treys per game.

Courtney Williams is averaging 12.9 points and is fifth in the WNBA with 5.9 assists per game. She tallied 15 points for the Lynx in an 82-71 victory over the Golden State Valkyries yesterday. Collier had 22 points, McBride added 12 and Jessica Shepard contributed eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

The Sky have just five wins on the season, all over the league’s other cellar dwellers. That includes two wins over the lowly Dallas Wings, a victory over the last-place Connecticut Sun, and two wins over the Los Angeles Sparks, whom they bested in their last game, 92-85 on the road a week ago.

Angel Reese scored a season-high 24 points and added 16 rebounds and seven assists in the win. It was the fourth straight game where she had 15 or more boards. She is averaging 12.4 points and a league-best 12.6 rebounds.

Kia Nurse chipped in with 14 points for Chicago, followed by Rachel Banham with 13 and Elizabeth Williams with 12 points and nine rebounds. Ariel Atkins, the Sky’s leading scorer at 14.6 points per game, had 20.

This is the first time the two teams have met this season, and they are set to play each other four times over the next 16 days. Minnesota swept all three games from the Sky last season.

Chicago Sky vs. Minnesota Lynx betting picks and predictions

Minnesota Lynx -15 points (-110)

This is a hefty task for the Lynx to accomplish, but the team has won five of its last seven games at home by 16 points or more, and their average margin of victory there is 15.8 points. Each of their last seven decisions here has been by double digits.

Both teams have gone 4-1 against the spread in their past five games. Chicago has gone 4-1 ATS in its last five road games, but Minnesota has gone 7-1 ATS in its last eight home contests.

The Sky simply struggle against the league’s best this season. Versus the other top four teams in the current standings – the New York Liberty, Phoenix Mercury and Atlanta Dream – the Sky are 0-6 with a margin of defeat of 16.8 points per game. In only two of those contests did the Sky lose by less than 15 points.

With Kamilla Cardoso (12.7 ppg, 6.6 rpg) playing for Brazil in the FIBA AmeriCup final against the United States today, the Sky will continue to be without their emerging second-year post presence. Expect Collier and her teammates to take advantage and put even more pressure inside on Reese at both ends of the court.

Total over 160 points (-110)

Minnesota likes to score, and Chicago likes to give up points. The Lynx are second in the league with 85.5 points per game, and the Sky are second worst in scoring defense, allowing 87.7 points per contest.

Chicago has played to the over in each of its last five games, with the game totals averaging more than 177 points. Expect all of these trends to continue in a high scoring affair in Minnesota this evening.

Napheesa Collier over 21.5 points (-125)

Collier has gone for 22 or more points 12 times this season. With Cardoso wearing a different jersey today, look for Collier to make it 13 times tonight against the Sky.
