Chicago Sky vs. Atlanta Dream: Picks, Predictions and Odds

The Chicago Sky travel to Atlanta this evening to take on the Dream at 7:30 PM ET.

A rough start to the season just got much worse for the 2-6 Sky. The team lost veteran Courtney Vandersloot for the season with a torn ACL during a 79-52 loss to the Indiana Fever on Saturday. She led the team with 5.3 assists per game and was second in scoring at 10.6 points per game.

The team did not fare much better three days later as they fell on the road to the New York Liberty, 85-66. It was the fifth loss by double digits for a Chicago squad that has a point differential of -13.5, second-worst in the league.

Things won’t get any easier this evening as the Sky are facing an Atlanta team that is in a good spot right now. The team has won 5-of-6 and currently sits third in the standings after knocking off the Indiana Fever at home Tuesday by a 77-58 score.

This is the first of four meetings this season between two teams that split the four-game series last year.

Who will take the opening matchup this season? See below for our experts’ picks and predictions for tonight’s matchup.

Chicago Sky vs. Atlanta Dream betting picks and predictions

Atlanta Dream -12.5 (-110)

Chicago has the same problem as the other teams at the bottom of the WNBA standings.

They aren’t very good offensively, and they give up a ton of points. Chicago ranks 12th in scoring offense at 76 points a game, and dead last in scoring defense, surrendering nearly 90 points a game.

Those aren’t good signs going into a matchup with Atlanta, who rank fourth in scoring offense with 83.8 points a game and fifth in scoring defense with 78.4 points allowed.

Sky forward Angel Reese has been maddeningly inconsistent on offense this season. Tuesday night against the Liberty not only represented her season-high, but it was also the first time she shot better than 50% from the field.

She hit 61.5% (8/13) of her shots, more than 25% better than her season average. She has yet to show that she can put two solid offensive outputs together in a row.

With Jones and veteran Brittney Griner (12.6 ppg, 6 rpg) inside, she is going to have trouble both scoring and controlling the glass.

While without Vandersloot, the Sky are going to need other guards - Ariel Atkins, Rachel Banham and rookie Hailey Van Lith - to facilitate the offense. Banham had five assists against the Liberty on Tuesday, but the team needs more.

The odds are against them getting it tonight. Five of their six losses have come by double digits and those six losses have come by an average of more than 20 points.

Atlanta is 6-3 straight up and against the spread while Chicago is just 3-5 ATS this season. Look for the Dream to win and cover the 12.5-point spread as favorites.

Under 159.0 total points (-110)

The Sky have totalled more than 159.0 points with their opponents five times in eight games, with the Dream doing so five times in nine contests.

But Chicago is averaging just 59 points in its last two games. The team has very little scoring firepower, and outside of Atkins and Reese, only second-year player Kamilla Cardoso (10.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg) is averaging in double figures.

New York was able to ease off the gas fairly early against the Sky on Tuesday night. The Dream should be able to do the same thing this evening. Look for the two teams to total Under 159 points.

Allisha Gray Over 17.5 points (-120)

Gray, now in her ninth season, continues to blossom with Atlanta. Since joining the Dream ahead of the 2023 season, all she’s done is make two All-Star teams and post the two best scoring seasons of her career.

She is on track to do so again this season, as her 20.4 points per game average represents a career-high.

Over her last six games, she has actually upped that average to 22 points per contest and she has scored more than 17.5 points five times during that stretch.

Look for Gray to score Over 17.5 points again this evening.
