Christian Williams has described Scottish Grand National winner Win My Wings to be in 'great form' ahead of Saturday's bet365 Gold Cup Handicap Chase at Sandown, despite being hit with top weight.

The nine-year-old, priced at 6/1 to triumph on Saturday, powered to victory at Ayr earlier this month, seven lengths ahead of stablemate Kitty's Light, to provide Williams with a day that he will never forget.

Williams enjoying fine campaign

The Glamorgan-based handler is enjoying a career-best campaign of 34 wins, twice as many as he achieved last season, and he has three solid chances in the 3m5f renewal.

National winner Win My Wings is aiming for a fourth successive win, having triumphed at Newcastle and Exeter before scoring in Scotland.

Kitty's Light, who was runner-up that race, is also in with a chance for Williams, while Cap Du Nord is the third horse that will represent the trainer in the race.

Top weight not a problem

Despite being hit with top weight, the trainer is confident that Win My Wings can run well, while also commenting on his other two chances.

"Win My Wings is in great form and the owner [Sue Howell] has been very sporting to allow her to tackle this race off top weight as she's only a small mare. It was a bit harsh to go up that much, but we'll take our medicine.

"Kitty's Light only went up 2lb from last time, so he's still around his winning mark and you can put a line through Cap Du Nord's last run. Nothing went his way and he travelled like the winner around the bend in this race last year, he's weighted to run well as he was only beaten five lengths last season."
