All you need to know about Matt Wells, the newest head coach of the Colorado Rapids in MLS.

On Tuesday, December 23, The Colorado Rapids of MLS announced that they are hiring Tottenham Hotspur assistant coach Matt Wells to be their new head coach.

This role with the Rapids will be Wells' first head coaching role for a club's first team. He has spent the last six years in England's Premier League, and Belgium's Pro League as an assistant coach.

Wells was a member of Tottenham's youth academy form 1997-2008, and began is coaching career with Spurs' U18s.

The British manager has spent the last two seasons on Tottenham's coaching staff, working under managers like Mauricio Pochettino, Ange Postecoglou, and Thomas Frank.

Wells will take over at the Rapids for Chris Armas, whose contract was not extended following the 2025 season.

Matt Wells has experience coaching in the Champions League, Europa League, and Premier League, but MLS will be a new frontier for him.

Wells spoke on Tuesday after agreeing terms with the Rapids.

"I'm excited to bring my experience and winning mentality to this organization."

"Of course, it's a difficult decision to leave a team playing Champions League football, but everything about the people and project at Colorado made the choice clear for me."

The Rapids finished with a 11-15-8 record this past season and missed the MLS Cup Playoffs. Fans in Colorado will hope for immediate change under new Wells leadership.
