Thuney played college football at NC State from 2011 to 2015. He was selected by the New England Patriots in the third round (78th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.
Thuney is entering the final year of a 5-year, $80 million contract he signed in March 2021.
He is set to make a base salary of $15.5 million in 2025 with a cap hit of $16 million.
Thuney will be an unrestricted free agent following the 2025 NFL season.
Thuney is known as one of the most versatile offensive lineman in the NFL, and can play guard, tackle, or center.
He began his career playing as a left guard for the New England Patriots, where he played 100 percent of the team’s offensive snaps from 2016 to 2018. The Patriots reached the Super Bowl in each of those three seasons, winning two titles.
Thuney featured at center for New England in 2020 Week 3, replacing the injured David Andrews.
The NC State product continued at left guard for the Kansas City Chiefs, where he started and played between 97 and 99 percent of all offensive snaps between 2021 and 2024.
In 2024 Week 15, Thuney moved from left guard to left tackle to account for the Chiefs’ struggles at the position.
He continued there for the remainder of the 2024 season, helping lead Kansas City to a third-straight Super Bowl appearance.
