Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever begin their 2025 WNBA campaign with a preseason game against the Washington Mystics on Saturday, May 3.

All eyes will be on second-year phenom Clark, who looks to build on an all-time great rookie season in which she set numerous rookie and WNBA records, including most assists in a single season (337), while leading the Fever to the playoffs and finishing fourth in MVP voting.

The Fever made various offseason moves to build around their superstar point guard, re-singing running mate Kelsey Mitchell, adding Natasha Howard, DeWanna Bonner, Sydney Colson and Brianna Turner from free agency, trading 2022 No. 2 overall pick NaLyssa Smith to the Dallas Wings and acquiring Sophie Cunningham from the Phoenix Mercury.

The Mystics have recorded just one winning season in the past five years and have not advanced past the first round of the playoffs since their WNBA title in 2019. They traded leading scorer Ariel Atkins to the Chicago Sky in February in exchange for three future draft picks, including the 2025 No. 3 overall pick.

Also of note, longtime Mystics guard Elena Delle Donne announced her retirement from professional basketball in April, although the 2x MVP did not suit up for Washington in the 2024 season.

Saturday’s exhibition game will also offer the first look at Washington’s three top-10 draft picks - Sonia Citron (No. 3), Kiki Iriafen (No. 4) and Georgia Amoore (No. 6).
