Baylor Bears guard VJ Edgecombe ended the class of 2024 recruiting cycle as a five-star prospect and the fifth-ranked player overall, and the 6-foot-5 shooting guard makes his College Basketball debut against the Gonzaga Bulldogs on opening night.
It's a tough matchup for the first-year player, as the game pits No. 8 Baylor against No. 6 Gonzaga and both teams will be desperate to avoid an 0-1 start.
Lining up across from Gonzaga's experienced group of guards and wings will also be a challenge for Edgecombe. He'll face off against some combination of Ryan Nembhard, Kahlif Battle, Nolan Hickman, or Ben Gregg, all of whom are veteran College Basketball players.
That said, Baylor head coach Scott Drew made things much easier on the freshman when he acquired fifth-year guard Jeremy Roach in the transfer portal.
Roach, who spent four years at Duke, shot a career-best 42.9 percent from three-point range last season while averaging 1.1 steals, proving he can spread the floor and take the defensive responsibility off of Edgecombe.
As a result of Roach's presence, it's likely Edgecombe will start the season in more of a traditional off-ball wing role while he grows more comfortable with having the ball in his hands and making plays for others.
Ahead of the athletic wing's collegiate debut on Monday night, let's look at his player props, odds and lines for the season-opening clash between Edgecombe's Baylor Bears and the Gonzaga Bulldogs.
