San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama is averaging 20.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.7 blocks per game three games into his second NBA season, and he faces the Oklahoma City Thunder and his top Defensive Player of the Year rival Chet Holmgren in his fourth game of the year.
Entering the season, Wemby was the -200 favorite for Defensive Player of the Year while Holmgren was the +1000 second-favorite. With Chet averaging a whopping 4.0 blocks plus 1.3 steals, he has gained ground in the market and is +350 while Wemby still has shorter odds at +130.
As expected, both Wemby and Holmgren have proven hard to shoot against. Wemby allows opponents to shoot 38.9 percent from the field when he's the nearest defender while Chet allows a 41.9 defensive field goal percentage.
Even more impressive is the fact that both centers allow a sub-50 percent defensive field goal percentage against opponents shooting less than six feet from the basket, per NBA tracking stats.
While Holmgren is a great player in his own right, Wemby gets more attention due to his eight-foot wingspan and guard-like skills with the basketball in his hands. Wembanyama's well-rounded offensive game led him to win 2023/24 NBA Rookie of the Year, but the Spurs went 1-2 against OKC in games Wemby played in.
Wembanyama is still waiting on his first wild stat line of the season. He recorded 20 rebounds in his most recent game and 29 points in the game before, but he hasn't come close to a triple-double yet.
Will Wemby put it all together against Holmgren and the Thunder, or will the Frenchman's DPOY rival take the headlines? Before the game, let's take a look at Wembanyama's player props, odds and lines.
