Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews will miss Wednesday’s home game against the Vegas Golden Knights. Matthews, who has five goals and six assists in 13 games this season, has been sidelined since Nov. 5 with an undisclosed upper-body injury. He traveled to Germany to consult a doctor he has worked with before. While Matthews has missed six games and has yet to resume skating, there’s a chance he could return to the lineup on Sunday against Utah.

In the meantime, the Maple Leafs have managed well without their top star, going 5-1 during his absence. They have a light schedule this week with only two games, which may help them weather the challenge.

Toronto’s recent success includes victories over weaker opponents (Boston, Detroit, and Montreal) by a combined score of 11-2.

However, against tougher teams, they’ve been outscored 9-6 over the last three games, suffering a shutout loss to Ottawa before eking out overtime wins against Washington and Edmonton.
