The United States Women's National Team will look to earn its fifth Olympic gold medal in the 2024 tournament, its first under new manager Emma Hayes.
The USWNT earned the bronze medal in the last Olympics, which took place in Tokyo in 2021 after the games were postponed from 2020 due to the pandemic.
In Rio de Janeiro in 2016, the team was eliminated in the quarterfinals on penalties by Sweden, the same team that knocked the Stars and Stripes out of the 2023 Women's World Cup in the round of 16.

The 2024 Olympics is the first major tournament in which she will coach the USWNT. The only American player she has experience working with is Catarina Macario, who played for Chelsea under Hayes, but Macario will miss the Olympics due to knee irritation with veteran forward Lynn Williams replacing her.
