The United States Men’s Basketball Team enters the 2024 Olympics as the overwhelming favorites to win gold.
And it’s warranted, given the squad the U.S. is bringing to Paris.
All-time greats and current NBA superstars Lebron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Jayson Tatum, and Joel Embiid, to name a few, are joining forces to create by far the most dominant team in the men’s competition.

It’s important to note the U.S. men’s team has had the best squad on paper in past tournaments and not won gold, notably at the 2023 FIBA World Cup and 2004 Olympics.
The nation’s failure to win gold at each of the last two World Cups has prompted the likes of LeBron, Steph, KD and more to play at the Olympics, which takes place in the heart of the NBA offseason. Not to mention, for the older players, this could mark their last chance at a gold medal with the Olympics taking place once every four years.
That being said, the U.S. has won gold at each of the last four summer games, and it has been 20 years since the Americans finished with a bronze medal after suffering a shock loss to Argentina in the semifinals.
In 2024, the U.S. matches up with the Nikola Jokic-led Serbia, South Sudan and Puerto Rico in Group C. From there, it will need to win three knockout stage games to win gold.
Canada (+1000), France (+1500), Serbia (+2000), Germany (+2000) and Greece (+2500) are considered the main threats to keep the USA from winning gold.
