The 2025 U.S. Open gets underway from Oakmont Country Club just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania this week.
The third major of the 2025 season will see tournament favorite Scottie Scheffler looking to win back-to-back majors, Bryson DeChambeau defending his 2024 title, and Rory McIlroy hoping to add to his long-awaited Masters triumph earlier this year.
But before any player dreams of lifting the U.S. Open trophy, they must start strong in Thursday’s opening round.
Let’s take a look at the latest odds for First Round Leader at the 2025 U.S. Open.
Scottie Scheffler | +900 |
Bryson DeChambeau | +1800 |
Jon Rahm | +2000 |
Rory McIlroy | +2200 |
Ludvig Aberg | +3000 |
Xander Schauffele | +3000 |
Collin Morikawa | +3500 |
Joaquin Niemann | +3500 |
Shane Lowry | +3500 |
Tommy Fleetwood | +4000 |
Outright favorite Scheffler is also the favorite to lead after the first round at Oakmont on Thursday, priced at +900.
The 2025 PGA Championship winner does not have a track record of flying out of the gates at majors, and most recently trailed Johnattan Vegas by five strokes after the opening round at Quail Hollow last month. At the 2025 Masters, Scheffler was three strokes off Justin Rose’s first round lead.
Scottie’s most recent first round lead came at The CJ Cup Byron Nelson, when he shot a 10-under 61 on Thursday en route to an eight-stroke victory.
DeChambeau, second-favorite to lead after Round 1 at +1800, has been known to come out firing at the biggest events. The 31-year-old held the outright lead after the opening rounds of both the 2024 Masters and 2023 PGA Championship.
Jon Rahm (+2000) and McIlroy (+2200) are next.
Rahm, along with Viktor Hovland and Brooks Koepka, led after the first round of the 2023 Masters, a tournament he won. McIlroy’s last first round lead at a major, which came at the 2024 U.S. Open, was shared with Patrick Cantlay.
Rory’s shot even par 72 in the first round at the Masters this year, seven shots off Rose’s lead, before posting 66-66-73 to come back and win the Green Jacket.
Ludvig Aberg (+3000), Xander Schauffele (+3300), Collin Morikawa (+3500), Joaquin Niemann (+3500) and Shane Lowry (+3500) are all shorter than 40/1 to lead after the first 18 on Thursday.
