2024 U.S. Open First Round Leader Odds

The 2024 U.S. Open gets underway from Pinehurst No. 2 on Thursday, as 156 players tee it up for a shot at one of golf’s elusive major championships.

But before anyone thinks about touching silverware, they must start strong on Thursday.

Let’s take a look at the favorites to lead after the first round.

2024 U.S. Open 1st Round Leader Odds

As expected, the First Round Leader market looks very similar to the outright market.

Scottie Scheffler (+1100) is the runaway favorite to both lead after round one and win the tournament. The Texas native has been virtually unstoppable this calendar year, winning five of 13 starts in 2024.

But, interestingly enough, Scheffler has not led after the first round in any of his 13 starts this year, despite leading the PGA Tour in Round 1 Scoring Average at 67.77.

Xander Schauffele (+2200) and Collin Morikawa (+2800) are tied-for-second in that category this season, each averaging a first round score of 68.08.

Schauffele led all players after Thursday’s round at last month’s PGA Championship, where he ultimately captured his first major title while bucking a trend of first round leaders failing to win outright at major championships.

As shown below, Schauffele is just the second player in the last 10 majors to both lead after the first round and win the tournament, joining Jon Rahm’s effort at the 2023 Masters.

Another name to keep an eye on is 2024 PGA Championship runner-up Bryson DeChambeau (+3000), who along with Schauffele is the only player to lead after the first round twice in the last 10 majors.
