Uruguay and Venezuela face off in a crucial CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday.

Uruguay face a tough test against an in-form Venezuela side looking to jump into the top-six places in the qualification table, which would secure them a spot in next summer’s World Cup for the first time in the history of their men’s national team.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side, ranked No. 13 in the world, have spiraled since winning four of their first six qualifying matches back in 2023. The Uruguayans have won just one of nine since then, including a 2-0 loss to neighbors Paraguay last week.

After facing Venezuela, Uruguay will play Peru and Chile – the bottom two teams in the table – so they should realistically be able to secure a spot in the top six, although in their current form any set of results is possible.

With a win on Tuesday, Venezuela can equal Uruguay on 21 points. Fernando Batista’s side has won its last two qualification matches dating back to March as the squad makes one final push to make history for their nation.
