This game marks the first of two friendlies between the USWNT and Ireland, with the second taking place on Sunday, June 29. The Stars and Stripes will also face off against Canada in a friendly on Wednesday, July 2.
Head coach Emma Hayes will have a chance to assess some new players, including first-time USWNT call-ups Jordyn Bugg, Lilly Reale, Izzy Rodriguez and Sam Meza. In total, 23 of 24 rostered players for these friendlies play in the NSWL, with the only European-based selection Chelsea FC’s Naomi Girma.
There are also several experienced national team players set to be involved, including Rose Lavelle, Emily Sonnett, Sam Coffey, Lynn Biyendolo and Girma.
Lavelle, the most-capped player on the current roster with 110 appearances for the USWNT, will suit up for the U.S. for the first time in more than six months having just recovered from ankle surgery.
According to ussoccer.com, the average age of this USWNT squad is 24.5 years, one of the youngest to ever assemble for the national team that currently sits at the top of the world rankings.
