Stipe Miocic has had a long and successful career in Mixed Martial Arts and is considered one of the best UFC heavyweight fighters.
In addition to competing in the UFC heavyweight division, Miocic is also a full-time firefighter and paramedic in Ohio.
Miocic has a total of 24 fights over the course of his MMA career. Overall he is 20-4. In the UFC, Miocic has a record of 14-4.
Miocic started his professional MMA career by winning his first six fights by knockout.
This included five fights in a promotion called “NAAFS” with one fight in a promotion called “Moosin”. This ranged from February of 2010 to April of 2011.
Come June of 2011, Miocic signed a multi-fight contract in the UFC. He made his UFC debut in October of 2011, where he faced Joey Beltran. Miocic won this fight by unanimous decision.
During the course of his MMA career, Miocic has won 15 times by KO/TKO and five times by decision. Three of his losses have come by KO/TKO and one has been by decision.
Most notably, Miocic won the UFC heavyweight title for the first time by defeating Fabricio Werdum in May of 2016. He made three consecutive title defenses before losing his belt to Daniel Cormier in July of 2018 before quickly winning it back against Cormier in August of 2019 and defending his title against Cormier again in June of 2020.
Miocic’s next fight was scheduled to be against Jon Jones for the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 295 in Madison Square Garden on November 11th, 2023.
However, Jones was forced to pull out because of a torn pectoral tendon that needed surgery. With this title fight having been canceled, Miocic currently has no fight on his radar at this time.
The last fight for Miocic was more than two years ago at UFC 260. Here he faced Francis Ngannou for the UFC Heavyweight Championship. This was also a rematch of a 2018 fight where Miocic won by unanimous decision.
The result this time around was much more disappointing for Miocic as he was dominated from the opening round.
He was only able to last until the second round where Ngannou was able to score the win by knockout and take the belt. Prior to this loss, Miocic had made four title defenses.
Miocic was born on August 19th, 1982 in Euclid, Ohio. He is 41 years old.
Since the start of his MMA career, Miocic has competed in the heavyweight division and is currently 6ft 4in tall, weighs 234 pounds and has a reach of 80 inches.
The only notable injury Miocic sustained was retinal damage when he was poked in the eye by Daniel Cormier during their second fight in June of 2020. This injury forced Miocic to miss nearly 10 months.
He has since fully recovered and could be on track to regain the heavyweight title in the near future.
