UConn Huskies men's basketball coach Dan Hurley rejected a six-year, $70 million contract offer from the Los Angeles Lakers in order to stay in Connecticut and chase a third consecutive NCAA Championship.
The Huskies are +1200 to win the title in the 2024/25 season, which are the joint-second-shortest odds of any team.
UConn only trails Duke, who are +1000 favorites in the market as a result of having a recruiting class with two top-four players and five top-20 players.
The Huskies will bring back Alex Karaban, who averaged 13.3 points per game last year. He'll be the star of the team's deep group of wings, which includes Jaylin Stewart and Jayden Ross.
The top recruits Hurley is bringing in are Liam McNeeley, a sharp-shooting forward who is ranked 10th in the class of 2024, and Ahmad Nowell, a 6-foot combo guard who is the 31st-ranked recruit.
Aidan Mahaney, a guard who has averaged 13.9 points in two seasons at Saint Mary's, is joining in the transfer portal. Former Michigan center Tarris Reed Jr. who averaged 9.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.4 blocks last season, is also transferring to UConn and will be tasked with replacing NBA-bound Donovan Clingan.
In 2024/25, Hurley will have to fill four spots in the starting lineup as a result of departures for the NBA and players running out of eligibility.
Hurley has proven his ability to develop talent over the years. Ahead of the 2023/24 season, he lost over half the team's minutes and over 60 percent of its scoring from the 2022/23 title-winning team.
Will he be able to rebuild the team this offseason and bring its chemistry and on-court execution to a championship-winning level?
