If it was not obvious that the New York Yankees were having a disappointing season already, it sure is clear now after they hit a new low by losing their ninth straight game on Tuesday night.

This defeat came against the Washington Nationals, a team that is well under .500 and a team that the Yankees should be beating more times than not.

The Yankees find themselves 17 games behind the Baltimore Orioles in the American League East division, while they are 10.5 games behind the Seattle Mariners for the final American League Wild-Card spot.

We already knew that the Yankees’ offense had been pretty inconsistent this season, but during their unprecedented losing streak they have been that much worse.

The Yankees are averaging 2.33 runs per game over the losing streak. This includes five games where they scored less than three runs and two where they were shut out.

Their pitching has been just as bad, as the Yankees are allowing 5.89 runs per game in that stretch. 

From a total runs perspective, they have been outscored 53 to 21.

Given this losing streak, the Yankees’ odds have shifted significantly.

They are +55000 to win the World Series, their odds to win the American League have lengthened to +27500 and they are +2200 to make the playoffs.

Seattle continues to climb

Completely the opposite of the Yankees are the Mariners. They are currently the hottest team in MLB, having won eight games in a row.

The most recent of those wins came against the Chicago White Sox, who they beat by a score of 6-3 on Tuesday night.

The Mariners have been rapidly climbing the standings, sitting just 1.5 games behind the Texas Rangers in the American League West division, while they currently occupy the final Wild-Card spot in the American League by 1.0 game over the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Mariners could further improve their Wild-Card position as they are 0.5 a game behind the Houston Astros for the second Wild-Card spot.

During the Mariners’ winning streak, they are averaging 7.6 runs per game while allowing an average of 3.9 runs per game.

They outscored their opponents 61-31 during this win streak and recently swept the Houston Astros.

Because of the current Mariners winning streak, their odds have started to get shorter.

Milwaukee pulling away

Like the Mariners, the Milwaukee Brewers are another team starting to make some noise as we inch closer to the end of the regular season.

The Brewers have won four games in a row, the most recent being a 7-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night.

The Brewers have started to take control of the National League Central division, now sitting in first place by 3.5 games.

Of course, the Brewers have plenty of games left to try and secure the division, but they are trending in the right direction, while the Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds have been in neutral recently.

During their four-game winning streak, the Brewers are averaging 7.0 runs per game, while they are allowing an average of 3.5 runs per game.

What is more impressive about this winning streak is that this past weekend, they swept the Texas Rangers, who are currently a top-five team in the league.

With the Brewers now starting to take control of the division they are +2000 to win the World Series and +1000 to win the National League.
