New Jacksonville Jaguars WR/CB Travis Hunter has the opportunity to do something no NFL player has done before - compete for both Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year.
After being selected with the No. 2 overall pick by the Jaguars in the 2025 NFL Draft, a pick that belonged to the Cleveland Browns which Jacksonville traded up for, Hunter finally knows where he will begin his NFL career. The dual-threat star is expected to feature on both sides of the ball in the pros, just as he did during his dazzling Heisman Trophy-winning 2024 season at Colorado.
Hunter (+650) is third-favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year behind No. 1 overall pick and Tennessee Titans QB Cam Ward (+260) and Las Vegas Raiders RB Ashton Jeanty (+270).
Trevor Lawrence's newest weapon has the shortest odds of any WR, edging out Carolina Panthers first-round choice Tetairoa McMillan (+900).
On the other side of the ball, Hunter is fourth in the odds to win Defensive Rookie of the Year at +900.
New York Giants edge rusher and No. 3 overall pick Abdul Carter (+230) is the favorite to win the award, followed by a pair of Georgia products - Atlanta Falcons No. 15 pick Jalon Walker (+600) and San Francisco 49ers edge rusher Mykel Williams (+850).
In the draft night trade, the Jags traded the No. 5 overall pick, a 2026 first-round pick, and a 2025 second-round pick (No. 126) for the Browns' No. 2 overall pick, a 2025 fourth-rounder (No. 104) and 2025 sixth-rounder (No. 200). A decent haul for new Jacksonville general manager James Gladstone to go and get his new franchise talent in Hunter.
"He's somebody who is deserving of a first-round draft pick as a wide receiver, and he is worthy of a first-round draft pick as a corner," Gladstone said, per ESPN. "Certainly look forward to each of those elements showing themselves over the next few years while he's under his rookie contract."
All signs point to Hunter featuring on both sides of the ball on Sundays this fall. The balance between the two and whether one side is favored over the other remains to be seen.
