In a standalone game on Thursday night in the college football world, the 2-1 Liberty Flames travel to Conway to take on the 1-2 Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.
It's a chance for these two teams to have a final "warmup" game before conference play starts next week. The Flames fell to James Madison in the first game of the season, but have since rebounded with two straight wins against Gardner-Webb and Ball State.
Quarterback Deshawn Purdie has a fine job as the signal-caller, throwing for 563 yards, five touchdowns, and no picks. He's found a nice connection with former Indiana Hoosier champion Makai Jackson at receiver, who leads Conference USA with 25.6 yards per reception.
On the other side, Coastal has started 1-2 for the second consecutive season, though they hung in tough with West Virginia in the season's opener. CC destroyed Fordham 45-7 in their second game, but proceeded to lose against Delaware last week. This game vs. Liberty starts a streak of games where five of their next seven are at home - perhaps a chance for them to pick up some wins.
In his sophomore season, Chanticleers quarterback Deuce Bailey has thrown for 826, eight touchdowns, and similarly to Purdie, zero interceptions.
