The Showdown takes place in Las Vegas on Tuesday, December 17, pitting PGA Tour golfers Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy against LIV Golf players Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau at Shadow Creek Golf Club.
Who will gain bragging rights for their tour - and around $10 million in cryptocurrency prize money?
Let's take a look at the outright odds for The Showdown.
Scheffler/McIlroy | -188 |
Koepka/DeChambeau | +150 |
The PGA Tour team of Scheffler and McIlroy, ranked first and third respectively in the World Golf Ranking, enters The Showdown as -188 favorites.
Koepka and DeChambeau are +150 underdogs. DeChambeau is 10th in the global ranking while Koepka is 87th.
Koepka dropped in the rankings due to his defection to LIV, as he finished 2023 ranked 17th. DeChambeau, despite joining LIV, has maintained a top-10 ranking thanks to winning the 2024 US Open and finishing second in the 2024 PGA Championship.
The World Golf Ranking doesn't tell the full story given how it favors the PGA Tour over LIV Golf, but the fact that World No. 1 Scheffler has won eight events in 2024 gives him an edge in both the rankings and in the odds. Plus, his teammate McIlroy won the Open Championship and finished second in the US Open this year.
In terms of how the four golfers have fared at Shadow Creek Golf Club, the only reference point comes from the 2020 CJ Cup, which was played at Shadow Creek. McIlroy finished T-21 with a -6 score, Koepka finished T-28 with a -5 score, Scheffler finished T-52 at +1, and DeChambeau did not play in the tournament.
