THE PLAYERS Championship: Dates, Streaming, Prize Money & Course

Often dubbed as the fifth major, THE PLAYERS Championship is one of the most prestigious tournaments on the PGA Tour.

The Players Championship is renowned as a competition that favors no style of play, and has featured some of the most memorable moments on the PGA Tour, including Tiger Woods' 2001 "better than most" putt which was heard around the globe.

The 52nd edition of the Players Championship begins on Thursday at TPC Sawgrass, and will feature some of the best golfers in the world. The two best golfers alive, Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, have won the past two Players Championships, and both superstars will be on display in Florida this weekend.

In 2025 McIlroy became only the eighth man to win multiple Players Championships after Scheffler joined the list in 2025. Other players in the field to have won the tournament are Adam Scott, Justin Thomas, Jason Day, Rickie Fowler, and Si Woo Kim.

When is The Players Championship?

The Players Championship is a standard four-day, 72-hole tournament that is held annually in March.

The 2026 edition of The Players will be begin on Thursday, March 12, and end on Sunday, March 15, 2026.

Golfers will tee off to begin the tournament at 7:40 AM ET on Thursday.

Where is The Players Championship played?

TPC Sawgrass has been the permanent home of The Players Championship since 1982.

TPC Sawgrass is a championship caliber course, located in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. The course is less than 25 miles from Jacksonville, and located just off the beach.

What is the prize money for The Players Championship?

The Players Championship has the largest purse on the PGA Tour calendar outside of the PGA Tour Championship, with a total of $25 million being distributed to to the top finishers.

The winner of the 2026 Players Championship will receive $4.5 million, and 750 FedExCup points - The largest single winners prize money in the PGA.

Where to watch The Players Championship

The 2026 Players Championship will be broadcast on The Golf Channel and NBC. The Golf Channel will cover the first two days of the tournament (Thursday, Friday) before NBC takes over coverage on the weekend (Saturday, Sunday).

Streaming will be available on ESPN+, Peacock, DirecTV, Hulu + Live TV, and PGA Tour Live.

Coverage begins on Thursday at 7:30 AM ET on ESPN+ and PGA Tour Live, while the Golf Channels coverage will begin at 1:00 PM ET on Thursday.

History of The Players Championship

The first Players Championship was held at the Atlanta Country Club in 1974, and was won one the greatest golfers of all-time, Jack Nicklaus.

The PGA Tour built TPC Sawgrass in 1980, and the course hosted it's first Players Championship in 1982. The tournament has been hosted at the Florida course ever since.
