Texas Football begins a new era in 2024.
After 28 years in the Big 12, the Longhorns are now part of the SEC, considered the deepest, most dominant conference in the college game. And it’s exactly the stage that Texas, its players, its fans and its boosters believe the program belongs.
But it won’t be easy. Texas opens up against a very formidable Colorado State before visiting No. 9 Michigan. Their SEC schedule includes Georgia (home), Oklahoma (neutral), and Texas A&M (away).
The Longhorns are expected to be a shoe-in for the expanded 12-team College Football Playoff, but can Steve Sarkisian’s team go one further and play for their first national title since 2005?
Let’s take a look at Texas' odds for the 2024 season.
Texas has eclipsed 10.5 wins just once in the past 14 seasons, and it was last year. Head coach Steve Sarkisian is a combined 25-14 in three full seasons at the helm.
Texas trails only Georgia (+170) in the betting to win the SEC title, with Alabama (+450) and Ole Miss (+850) close behind.
Texas earned the 3-seed in the 2023/24 College Football Playoff, losing to No. 2 Washington 37-31. Before that, the Longhorns' best end-of-season CFP ranking was No. 15 in 2018.
Texas has the fourth-shortest odds to win the national championship, trailing Georgia (+280), Ohio State (+400) and Oregon (+700). The Longhorns have one national title this century (2005) and four in program history.
