Teofimo Lopez vs. Jamaine Ortiz tips from Rob Tebbutt

Teofimo Lopez returns to the ring for the first time since his mesmerising win over Josh Taylor last May, and he will face Jamaine Ortiz. On the undercard, Keyshawn Davis will face former champion Jose Pedraza.

Teofimo Lopez vs. Jamaine Ortiz picks and predictions

Lopez, who is now a two-weight world champion, does have a tendency to blow hot and cold and will have to be on his ‘A’ Game when he faces off against former Vasiliy Lomachenko opponent Jamaine Ortiz on Thursday night.

Ortiz is a well-schooled, athletic young fighter who has shared plenty of rounds with the world’s best in both sparring and on fight night. He’s long, has decent movement and will be under no illusions as to the task in-front of him against Lopez.

I expect Lopez to win the fight (-700) but the question is how?

The nature of Lopez’s performances mean it’s difficult to predict what version of him we get on fight night. A price of +162 to win by KO/TKO is very appealing, and is a likely outcome if we see Teo at his best. Ortiz isn’t the most difficult to hit and was down twice against Joseph Adorno back in April 2021.

The price of -120 on Lopez by decision is a bit short for me, with ‘The Takeover’ boasting enough KO power and speed to end the fight at any minute.

Ultimately, I’m going to back Lopez to follow-up that win over Josh Taylor and get the job done inside the distance. I feel that he’s just a level above Ortiz and despite Ortiz going the distance against Lomachenko, I feel the added size and power of Lopez will be the difference.

My play will be Teofimo Lopez to win by KO/TKO at +162 and I’ll also be looking at Teofimo Lopez by KO/TKO Between 7-12 at +333.

Keyshawn Davis vs. Jose Pedraza picks and predictions

Olympic silver medallist Keyshawn Davis faces off against experienced, durable former 130lb champion Jose Pedraza.

For Davis, this is a good fight for his development against one of the most battle-hardened veterans in and around his division. Pedraza has shown his skills and toughness against a host of top names in the past and I feel he’ll give Davis a good, hard ten rounds on Thursday.

I think a price of -150 for Keyshawn Davis to win a decision is a decent enough price. Pedraza has shown his durability as the years have gone by, whereas Davis isn’t the concussive puncher some made him out to be early in his career.

Nevertheless, Davis is the younger, fresher fighter and there’s a feeling that he may need something of a statement performance after being extended the distance in his last two outings. A price of +175 for the stoppage may be enough to tempt some, but for me, my play is Davis by Decision/Technical Decision at -150.
