Taylor Fritz vs. Alexander Zverev: Picks, Predictions and Odds

It is quarterfinal time at the US Open and among those flying the flag for the USA is Taylor Fritz, who faces World No. 4 Alexander Zverev.

The 12th seed is arguably the USA's best chance of Grand Slam glory in the men's singles event and this is the second consecutive season in which he has reached the last eight at Flushing Meadows.

But Fritz has never gone any further in a major and a first Grand Slam semifinal appearance beckons as he prepares to clash with determined German Zverev.

These players have met nine times on the ATP tour before so they are well-acquainted and with Zverev just ahead at 5-4 in the head-to-head, it is fair to say they are pretty evenly matched.

Fritz is fresh from a four-set win over eighth seed Casper Ruud in the last 16, having also beaten Matteo Berrettini in the tournament.

As for Zverev, he secured his place in the quarter-finals at the expense of Brandon Nakashima, who he overcame 3-6 6-1 6-2 6-2 at the Louis Armstrong Stadium.

The winner of the encounter this week will go on to face either Grigor Dimitrov or Frances Tiafoe in the semifinals.

Taylor Fritz vs. Alexander Zverev betting picks and predictions

Taylor Fritz to win (+130)

The head-to-head record alone shows how close this matchup could be but at +130, Fritz looks a good pick to beat Zverev.

It has been a particularly strong season for the 26-year-old American, who has won 38 of his 54 matches and claimed two titles in the process.

Although his preparation for the US Open this season did not go according to plan, he is a player who performs when it matters most, having reached the quarterfinals at both the Australian Open and Wimbledon this season.

He has never gone any further at a Grand Slam event but if he is going to any time soon, the US Open is the most likely major in which he will do it.

There should be no shortage of determination from Fritz, who can look forward to again playing in front of home support. Plus, the early exits of Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic only boost his prospects of going deep.

Fritz has dropped only one set en route to this stage of the competition and he fired 24 aces and 56 winners in his composed win over Ruud last time out.

Taylor Fritz to win 3-2 (+500)

To squeeze even more value out of Fritz winning this contest, consider backing the American to win a five-set thriller.

Both Fritz and Zverev dropped sets in the previous round of the US Open and their most recent meeting went the distance.

Fritz recovered from two sets down to win 4-6 6-7 6-4 7-6 6-3 against Zverev in the last 16 of Wimbledon earlier this summer and neither player is likely to go down without a fight.

Zverev has been taken to four sets in three of his four matches at Flushing Meadows and if this match goes the distance, you get the sense Fritz will have more left in the tank and is more likely to prevail, especially with the crowd behind him.

Over 41.5 games (-120)

Thinking along similar lines to the previous wager, Over 41.5 games could be another decent betting strategy for this quarterfinal in New York.

When Fritz and Zverev clashed in the last 16 of Wimbledon back in July, their matchup produced a total of 55 games.

The match featured two tiebreaks and given how both players are dangerous on serve, this could swing backwards and forwards.

Fritz can fire them down when he wants to on hard courts, as demonstrated by his tally of 15 aces against Ruud last time out.

But Zverev can also hold his serve well, having struck nine aces against Nakashima in the fourth round.

The German won 73 percent of his first-serve points in that contest and those figures suggest it could take time for breaks to occur in each set of this contest.

That in turn leads to more games, so Over 41.5 games looks like solid value at -120.
