Paula Badosa vs. Emma Navarro: Picks, Predictions and Odds

Paula Badosa will take on home favourite Emma Navarro in the US Open quarterfinals on Tuesday with both players aiming to reach the last four of a Grand Slam event for the very first time.

Spaniard Badosa has only dropped one set on her way through to the quarterfinals, but this will mark the first time she has faced a fellow seeded opponent at Flushing Meadows this year.

South Carolina native Navarro has certainly been tested in New York, as after seeing off 19th-seed Marta Kostyuk in three sets in the third round, she then went the distance and got the better of defending champion and fellow American Coco Gauff 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

Beating Gauff was the latest win in what has been a breakthrough season on the WTA Tour for Navarro, but can she go on to make it through to the semifinals of her home Grand Slam?

Paula Badosa vs. Emma Navarro betting picks and predictions

Emma Navarro to win (+110)

Navarro has established herself as a major force on the WTA Tour in 2024. Since landing her first title at this level in January's Hobart International, she has been a picture of consistency.

The 23-year-old has produced her best-ever showings at all four Grand Slam events this year and her run in New York has matched her efforts at Wimbledon where she was eventually stopped by Jasmine Paolini.

Since that quarterfinal defeat at the All England Club, Navarro's form has arguably gone up another level during the North American hard-court season, as she enjoyed runs to the semifinals at both the National Bank Open and the Monterrey Open in the build up to the final slam of the year.

Navarro's consistency from the back of the court has been key to her success on hard courts and was in evidence as she deservedly overcame defending champion Gauff to reach the last eight.

There will be question marks about how much that win has taken out of the 13th seed but she will believe she can get the better of Badosa, who has not faced a player that is ranked higher than 48th in the world at this year's tournament.

Despite that relatively kind draw, Badosa was taken to a final-set tiebreak by Romania's Elena-Gabriela Ruse in round three and may find Navarro too hot to handle, especially as the American will have the majority of the New York crowd behind her.

Three sets in the match (+110)

Given neither of these players has ever won a quarterfinal match at a Grand Slam, there are sure to be nerves out on court and that could make it difficult for either player to show their best form.

That could contribute to this match going this distance, just as it did the only previous time they have faced off on the WTA Tour when Badosa claimed a three-set victory in the second round of the Italian Open on clay in May.

Navarro has certainly become accustomed to three-set matches in New York, with her victories over both Kostyuk and Gauff going the distance, while Badosa was pushed all the way by Ruse in round three.

The winner of this match will face either second seed Aryna Sabalenka or Australian Open finalist Zheng Qinwen in the semifinals, but whoever does progress will likely have to do it the hard way.

First set total games - Under 8.5 (+200)

While this is a match that could go the distance, it does not mean that each set will be closely fought and it could pay to back Under 8.5 total games to be contested in the first set.

That would have been a winning bet in two of Navarro's four matches at Flushing Meadows this year, as she only dropped a combined two games in her opening sets against Anna Blinkova and Arantxa Rus.

Badosa has also needed less than eight games to win the first set in half of her matches at this year's US Open, including against Wang Yafan in round four - she took that opener 6-1. She did not drop a game in her opening set of the tournament against former Wimbledon quarterfinalist Viktorija Golubic.

If either player lets nerves get the better of them early in this contest, then do not be surprised if the first set is over in a flash.
