An intriguing encounter between American ace Coco Gauff and 30th seed Dayana Yastremska is imminent as the third round of the French Open gets underway.
The rain has put a damper on the start of this year's French Open in Paris but the third round of the Grand Slam is set to get underway on Friday.
Gauff was a finalist at the French Open back in 2022 and has since won her first Grand Slam title at the US Open last year.
For Yastremska, meanwhile, this is uncharted territory with the Ukrainian having never previously progressed beyond the first round of the clay-court major.
Third seed Gauff is fresh from a straight-sets win over unseeded Slovenian Tamara Zidansek, while Yastremska was a convincing winner herself in the second round against Wang Yafan of China.
The winner of this encounter will progress to the fourth round of the French Open, in which they could face any of Liudmila Samsonova, Amanda Anisimova, Cristina Bucas or Elisabetta Cocciaretto.
Gauff is the obvious bet to prevail in this match and she is appropriately priced at -900 to come out on top.
The American loves the slower surface and came into this Grand Slam fresh from a run to the semi-finals of the Italian Open in Rome.
It was top seed Iga Swiatek who brought an end to her run in that event but she picked up some notable wins against Qinwen Zheng and Paula Badosa.
And she has looked pretty ruthless in the French Open, winning both of her matches against Julia Avdeeva and Zidansek in straight sets.
Against Avdeeva in the first round, Gauff only conceded two games but Yastremska will likely represent a step-up in difficulty.
Gauff won her one and only previous meeting with Yastremska 2-0 at the Madrid Open in April, although she was pushed close in the first set, edging out her opponent 6-4.
And although she put together a decent run at the recent Italian Open, it was not always plain sailing for Gauff in Rome as she was taken to three sets by Badosa and Jacqueline Cristian.
Gauff has won both of her matches at the French Open in straight sets but she could face more resistance from Yastremska, who has shown signs of quality on the WTA tour this season.
The Ukrainian was a semi-finalist at the last Grand Slam - the Australian Open - and she could cause problems for the American.
That said, Gauff is still the best bet to win the match and punters should look to back her to triumph in three sets.
Those expecting Yastremska to put up a fight in this match should also consider a wager on the Ukrainian at +5.5 on the match handicap.
Gauff was devastating in her opener against Avdeeva, winning the game count 12-2 but against a stronger opponent in Zidansek in the second round, she won the game count 12-7.
And Yastremska should make things even more competitive in the third round.
En route to the semi-finals of the Italian Open earlier in May, Gauff won the game counts in her matches 12-6 against Magdalena Frech, 12-10 against Cristian, 17-12 against Badosa and 13-7 against Zheng.
She would have covered a handicap of -5.5 games in only two of those victories and she looks unlikely to do so in this contest either.
This may be the furthest Yastremska has progressed at the French Open but her confidence should be high after winning the game count 12-2 against Wang last time out and she was pretty reliable in that contest, winning six of her nine break points.
The final selection punters should consider is a win for Gauff and at least 19 games.
Gauff's most recent encounter with Zidansek produced 19 games alone and that only featured two sets, whereas this one could go the distance.
In her first match of the tournament, Yastremska was involved in a match with Ajla Tomljanovic which produced 27 games and this could be another competitive battle.
