One year ago Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic crossed racquets in one of the most compelling Wimbledon finals in recent memory and they reconvene at the All England Club on Sunday.
Despite Jannik Sinner heading into the Grand Slam as world number one, it is again the Spaniard and seven-time winner Djokovic who have risen to the top.
And history is on the line for Djokovic in particular with the Serbian looking to pull clear on 25 Grand Slams and equal Roger Federer's haul of eight Wimbledon men's singles titles.
But Alcaraz has won all three of his previous Grand Slam finals, most recently prevailing at the French Open, and is -150 favorite to win on Centre Court.
The head-to-head between these players is pretty evenly poised with Djokovic leading 3-2 but the Spaniard has undoubtedly had the better season.
Alcaraz has won 26 of his 32 matches this year, collecting two titles in the process, including the third Grand Slam of his career.
Djokovic, meanwhile, has yet to win a tournament in 2024 and there was uncertainty around him competing at Wimbledon this year after he underwent knee surgery in June.
He has bounced back brilliantly but it is fair to say the draw has been kind to the veteran, who was handed a walkover win against Alex De Minaur in the quarterfinals and took on an out-of-sorts Holger Rune in the round of 16.
Lorenzo Musetti was swatted aside in the semi-finals which should act as a warning sign to Alcaraz but the Spaniard nonetheless looks better prepared for this final.
The win over Djokovic in last year's final should do his confidence the world of good and he looked destructive in comeback wins over Tommy Paul and Daniil Medvedev.
Alcaraz's serve has also improved and the 21-year-old can claim a fourth major title of his career on Sunday.
Last year's five-set final lasted four hours and 42 minutes and was testament to the psychological resolve of Alcaraz, who got over the line in the end.
But these players have since gone in different directions and Alcaraz could instead be worth backing to win in four sets this time around.
Djokovic has deteriorated this season and has yet to be properly tested at the All England Club this year - 15th seed Rune is the highest-rated player he has faced.
Alcaraz has won each of his last three matches 3-1 and that again looks the way to go in the set betting.
A decent supplementary bet for this match could be over 14.5 aces at -125.
An improved serve has been a noticeable feature of Alcaraz's tournament in particular and he fired down 16 aces in his third-round battle with Frances Tiafoe along with a fastest serve of 135mph.
Alcaraz also hit 14 aces against Ugo Humbert in the round of 16.
That number will be much lower for Alcaraz in this match and both players are great on the return but those expecting a fair few games and sets in this contest should still look to back the combined aces count to reach at least 15 in this blockbuster final.
