Subriel Matias vs. Liam Paro titles at stake

Matias' IBF world junior welterweight title is on the line against Paro.

Subriel Matias record

Matias turned professional in December 2015 and has a 20-1 record entering the bout against Paro. All of his wins have come via stoppage.

Matias fought four times in his first year as a professional and won all four fights. He won four fights in both 2017 and 2018 before going 3-0 in 2019.

His first and so far only loss came in 2020, via unanimous decision to Petros Ananyan. So far, it is the only one of Matias' 21 professional fights to go the distance.

Since that first defeat, Matias has won five straight matches, all via his opponents retiring. He won the then-vacant IBF junior welterweight title against Jeremias Ponce in February 2023 and retained it against Shohjahon Ergashev in November 2023.

Liam Paro record

Liam Paro turned professional in March 2016 and has since collected a 24-0 record split between 15 knockouts and nine decisions.

Paro won his first three fights, which all took place in 2016, via decision. He began to develop his power in his fourth and fifth fights that year with TKO wins.

His first four fights in 2016 were only four rounds, with his final bout in 2016 being set for six rounds with Paro ending it with a TKO win in the first.

Paro kept fighting in shorter bouts, with the longest of his early career being set for eight rounds in September 2017. He began to participate in longer bouts beginning in 2018, but he found he had a knack for ending those fights early.

In his first two fights set for 10 rounds, Paro won via retirement in the third round in that first fight against Andrew Wallace and won via TKO in the second round of that second fight against Sebastian Bytyqi.

He has fought in 10-round bouts ever since, beating Robert Tlatlik via seventh-round TKO in 2018 before winning three straight bouts via unanimous decision in 2019.

Paro won consecutive fights - which took place a year apart in March 2020 and March 2021 - via TKO against James Chereji in the eighth round and against Terry Tzouramanis in the seventh round, respectively. He then beat Steve Gago via unanimous decision in July 2021.

He won his first fight in the States in December 2021 via split decision against Yomar Alamo. Paro won each of his last two fights via stoppage, beating Brock Jarvis via first-round TKO in October 2022 and beating Montana Love via sixth-round KO in December 2023.
