St. Louis City vs. Inter Miami: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

Inter Miami will look to consolidate top spot in the MLS Eastern Conference when they welcome an out-of-form St. Louis City to Florida on Saturday night.

The teams have seemingly swapped fortunes this year: St. Louis surprised the league by finishing first in the Western Conference in its first year of existence last season while Miami finished second-to-last in the East as Lionel Messi only played in six league matches in 2023.

This time around, Messi has been joined by Luis Suarez to form the most dangerous attacking duo in league history while St. Louis is dealing with the consequences of three straight losses in a jam-packed Western Conference.

St. Louis City vs. Inter Miami betting picks and predictions

Inter Miami to win & both teams to score (+162)

Last year's summer arrival of Lionel Messi, along with former Barcelona teammates Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, salvaged an otherwise disappointing season for Inter Miami as they helped The Herons to win the inaugural Leagues Cup, and their first full season with Messi and company is looking bright.

The David Beckham-owned team, who also signed another Camp Nou favourite in Luis Suarez during the off-season, sit top of the MLS Eastern Conference with 34 points from 17 games.

They did lose 3-1 at home to Atlanta United last time out, but they will be confident of bouncing back in style this weekend.

That defeat ended a 10-match unbeaten streak for Inter Miami and seven of those 10 outings ended in victory for the Florida-based outfit but, as you might expect from such a star-studded attacking lineup, much of their success comes from outscoring the opposition.

They have the MLS’s best-attacking record with 39 goals scored, but only eight of the 28 other teams have conceded more goals than them. Five of those teams reside in the bottom three of their respective conferences.

Inter Miami have kept just two clean sheets in their last 14 MLS matches and St. Louis City, for all their faults, have averaged over a goal per game this season and have only failed to score in three of their 14 outings, two of which came at home.

Despite their respectable attacking record, St. Louis City make the trip to Fort Lauderdale on a three-match losing streak and sit in a disappointing 11th place in the Western Conference.

They may be able to trouble the hosts’ leaky defence, but defeat is still on the cards for Bradley Carnell’s side.

Lionel Messi to score anytime (-150)

Lionel Messi was a transformative presence when he touched down in Miami last summer, scoring 11 goals in 14 competitive appearances to help the club to their first-ever trophy.

The World Cup winner has been no less influential in his first full season in the MLS, either, scoring 13 goals in 14 games in all competitions and averaging a goal per game in the MLS, while chipping in further with 10 assists.

Fourteen of these 20 goal contributions in MLS have come at Chase Stadium, including a stupendous haul of one goal and five assists - all after halftime - as Inter Miami thrashed New York Red Bulls in May.

Messi has scored in eight of his 11 MLS outings this season and can make the difference against a visiting side that have conceded seven goals across their last three matches.

Christopher Durkin to be booked (+225)

Christopher Durkin has started 12 of St. Louis City’s 14 MLS games since signing from D.C. United during the off-season and the 24-year-old has found himself in plenty of trouble.

St. Louis City’s defensive midfielder has been booked five times so far, averaging a card every 222 minutes of play, the most recent of which came last time out in a 2-1 defeat to Seattle Sounders.

He could find himself drawing the referee’s ire again in Florida as he competes with an Inter Miami side that have seen their opponents booked 32 times this season.
