United States vs. Trinidad and Tobago: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

There was plenty of hype when Mauricio Pochettino was unveiled as the new head coach of the USMNT in September but, nine months into his tenure, the Argentinian tactician has yet to get the fans on side.

After opening up with four wins and looking like a masterstroke of an appointment, the former Chelsea, Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain manager has suffered four straight defeats, the most recent of which saw the Stars and Stripes routed 4-0 by Switzerland last Wednesday.

Pochettino has remained bullish in his ambitions, stating on Friday that the USMNT’s goal is to win the 2026 World Cup.

Fans understandably responded to that statement with confusion and Pochettino will need to lead his side to a convincing win over Trinidad and Tobago in their Gold Cup opener at PayPal Park on Sunday evening to silence his doubters.

United States vs. Trinidad and Tobago betting picks and predictions

USA to win and under 3.5 goals (+100)

Finding the net has been the USA’s major issue in the second half of Pochettino’s eight-game reign, with the Stars and Stripes managing just two goals in their last four matches - a run which began with a shocking 1-0 defeat to Panama.

Therefore, it seems unlikely they will run riot against Trinidad and Tobago, who actually beat the States 2-1 in the pair’s last meeting back in 2023, a game which made it two head-to-heads in a row to stay under 3.5 goals.

That same bet appeals in this clash as the USMNT are without many of their most potent stars. Giovanni Reyna and Timothy Weah are at the Club World Cup, Christian Pulisic has been given time off following a busy season with AC Milan and the nation’s three most talented strikers, Ricardo Pepi, Folarin Balogun and Josh Sargent, are all absent from the squad.

However, Haji Wright, Brenden Aaronson and Malik Tillman are available and make up a solid squad, despite the notable absentees. Expect the USMNT to snap their four-game winless run with a victory in their Gold Cup opener, even if they fail to fully rediscover their shooting boots while doing so.

Patrick Agyemang anytime goalscorer (-125)

With Pepi, Sargent and Balogun nowhere to be seen, the door is open for emerging talent Patrick Agyemang to continue to stake his claim to be the USA’s starting striker at the 2026 World Cup.

The Charlotte forward netted 10 goals in MLS last term and has continued that form into this season, scoring six times in 16 appearances in the 2025 campaign. He is expected to lead the line against the Soca Warriors and could repay the faith put in him by Pochettino.

He has already done that on numerous occasions in the early part of his international career, scoring three goals in just six USMNT appearances, and he looks a solid selection to get on the scoresheet on Sunday.

Levi Garcia over 0.5 shots on target (+125)

Trinidad and Tobago boss and Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke will no doubt set up his side in a compact, defensive system with a view of hitting the United States on the counter in San Jose.

Pochettino is likely to respond by committing men forward to break down a stubborn Soca Warriors defense, which could leave them exposed to the pace of Trinidan forward Levi Garcia on the break.

Garcia has looked lively for Spartak Moscow this season, registering 26 shots and getting 10 of those on target in just 11 appearances - averaging an effort on target every 62.8 minutes for the Russian side.

His pace can cause defenders nightmares and he looks a big price to manage a shot on target in California, especially as he registered three in his last appearance against the USA, despite his side losing 6-0 on that occasion.
