The United States will be hoping for a confidence-boosting result when they take on rivals Canada at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City on Saturday.
A disappointing Copa America that resulted in the USA failing to get out of the group was enough to see head coach Gregg Berhalter lose his job, with reports suggesting Mauricio Pochettino is close to replacing him.
For now, former assistant Mikey Varas has been placed in interim charge and his first task is to guide his side to a victory over a Canada team that are showing promising signs under Jesse Marsch.
The USA head into this contest as the -112 favorites but it is hard to back them with any confidence given how poorly they performed at the Copa America on home soil.
Former boss Berhalter started off with a 2-0 win over Bolivia but it was all downhill from that stage of the tournament, with defeats to Panama (2-1) and Uruguay (1-0) confirming their early exit.
Argentine Pochettino's imminent arrival should provide a big boost, but there is plenty of work for the ex-Chelsea manager to do and he is yet to sign on the dotted line to be appointed.
Instead, it is Varas that will take the reins for now and he needs to try to pick up a side that has won just one of their last five assignments, something which is easier said than done.
That is because opponents Canada head into this clash off the back of a positive Copa America campaign. They made the semifinals before being knocked out by eventual champions Argentina.
Canada were on course to take third place at the Copa bronze medal game, leading Uruguay 2-1 in stoppage-time, only for Luis Suarez to pop up with a last-gasp equaliser before the Canucks then lost on penalties.
It was, nonetheless, a strong competition for Canada and their displays were made even more impressive given the fact Marsch was only appointed in March this year and had just two friendlies before the Copa America started.
Marsch will be eager to build from the tournament and his side look capable of picking up the win in Kansas.
Neither side will want to give anything away in this contest and that could result in a low-scoring affair, with Under 2.5 goals looking like a solid play at -143.
Canada kept two clean sheets from three group games at the Copa America and under 2.5 goals has landed in six of Marsch's eight matches in charge.
For all of the USA's disappointment in the tournament, two of their three games also went under the 2.5 mark and a similar style of play is expected under Varas, who was assistant to Berhalter.
The USA have plenty of attacking talent to choose from - Christian Pulisic and Folarin Balogun two of those - but Canada also have their own weapons and one of those is Tani Oluwaseyi.
The 24-year-old is yet to get off the mark for his country in six attempts but his domestic form has been solid and it won't be long until he grabs his maiden international goal.
Oluwaseyi scored 18 goals from 27 USL Championship appearances on loan at San Antonio last year and he has kept that momentum going for Minnesota United this term, bagging eight times from 18 MLS games.
