The knockout stages of the Euros begin on Saturday and first up is a clash between defending champions Italy and Group A runners-up Switzerland.
The Azzurri also finished in second spot in an incredibly tough looking Group B thanks to a last-gasp goal from Mattia Zaccagni against Croatia.
The Italians are the slight favourites here but will need to be on top form to overcome this solid Swizz outfit, who navigated the group stages without defeat and are on a seven-game unbeaten run.
Italy scored just three goals in as many games in the group stages and their two main strikers, Gianluca Scamacca and Mateo Retegui, are yet to get off the mark.
Both have wasted a few chances, and in terms of value it could pay to look elsewhere for an Italy scorer ahead of their last 16 showdown with Switzerland.
Defender Alessandro Bastoni, midfielder Nicola Barella and Lazio winger Mattia Zaccagni are the three Italian scorers so far and, of that trio, Barella is perhaps the more likely scorer, but the standout pick is Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini at +450.
Pellegrini was arguably the Azzurri’s standout performer against Croatia and although he is yet to open his Euro 2024 account, he has been getting plenty of chances.
Pellegrini had three shots in Italy’s opener against Albania, recording an assist in that game, and two in the 1-1 draw with Croatia. He also managed one attempt in a 1-0 defeat to Spain in a game where Italy managed to carve out just four chances in total.
The 28-year-old finished the season with a solid 10 goals across all competitions for the Giallorossi and looks like he could be a threat against Switzerland.
Pellegrini occupies the attacking midfield role behind the striker for his country and, with players like Giacomo Raspadori and Federico Chiesa around him causing problems with their pace and creativity, he should see a few chances fall his way against Switzerland, so he looks a value pick in the scorer market considering the struggles of the out-and-out Italian strikers.
Fabian Schar has been fairly well behaved so far in Germany with just two fouls in three games but he faces his sternest test so far on Saturday.
Chiesa came off the bench against Croatia but should come back into the starting XI here in place of Federico Dimarco, who was presumably selected due to his more defensive mindset in a game the Italians only needed to draw.
Chiesa’s pace may cause a few issues for the Swiss defence and as such Schar, who was booked nine times for Newcastle across all competitions this season, looks a contender for a card.
Switzerland attacker Dan Ndoye was on target in the 1-1 draw with host nation Germany last time out and can at least test Italy keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma on Saturday.
Ndoye has been one of Switzerland’s star performers so far at Euro 2024 and he clearly isn’t afraid to try his luck, averaging 3.0 shots-per-game in the competition.
The 23-year-old should know the Italy backline fairly well as he plays his club football in Serie A with Bologna.
Ndoye has seen just under half his attempts either on target or blocked in Germany and he stands out as a good value option to record at least one effort on goal on Saturday.
