Seattle Sounders vs. Philadelphia Union: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

There is a clash between the ninth-placed team in the Eastern Conference and the team in 10th in the Western Conference scheduled in the MLS as Philadelphia Union host Seattle Sounders at Subaru Park on Saturday night.

Philadelphia have become tie specialists with both of their opening MLS games of the season against Chicago Fire and Sporting KC finishing level, which has also happened in its last two CONCACAF Champions Cup games against Deportivo Saprissa of Costa Rica and Mexicans Pachuca.

Seattle is also looking for its first victory, following a 2-1 loss at Los Angeles with a goalless tie at home to Austin.

Seattle Sounders vs. Philadelphia Union betting picks and predictions

Seattle Sounders tie no bet (+125)

Both of these teams will want to get off the mark as quickly as possible even though their MLS seasons are just two games old, but it could be Seattle who head back west having claimed the three points.

Recent results suggest this could be a tight encounter even though not much attention should be paid to the fact the pair played out a goalless draw in their last meeting five years ago.

Philadelphia has claimed a tie in each of its last four matches, two of which were in the CONCACAF Champions Cup and it could pay to support Seattle in the tie-no-bet market - stakes will be returned if the match finishes level.

The main issue for the Union is the gruelling schedule they have been required to follow as this will be their sixth match in less than three weeks.

That should tip the match into the Sounders’ favour. They should be fresher and are entitled to take great heart from the goalless draw they played against Austin last time out, when they dominated the shot count against a team who hardly got into the attacking half of the field.

Under 2.5 goals (-150)

Fatigue could play a big role in the match and that means there is a strong chance it could be a low-scoring affair.

Philadelphia at least have the opportunity to recall defenders Jack Elliott and Damion Lowe who were forced to sit out the midweek goalless draw with Pachuca through suspension and that should provide them with a solid feel to their back line.

Seattle, too, are a team that takes great pride in the quality of its defense and the Sounders conceded just 32 goals in the regular season last year, which was the joint lowest tally in the whole of MLS.

It could take a while for the deadlock to be broken and two evenly matched teams may be difficult to separate, so there is a strong chance that the defenses will hold the upper hand and prevent the goal tally from getting to three or above.

Raul Ruidiaz to score at any time (+333)

There will be plenty of attention focused on USMNT forward Jordan Morris in the hope he will provide the difference for the Sounders, but those looking for an anytime-goalscorer interest for the Subaru Park clash may want to look at Peruvian veteran Raul Ruidiaz.

The 33-year-old is entering his seventh season with Seattle and while his tally of five last season was his lowest since he joined the franchise, the early signs this season have been good.

He has had a total of eight efforts on goal in the Sounders’ two MLS games to date, so an opener for the season may not be far away after he had three efforts in just 28 minutes when he came on as a substitute against Austin.

That could earn him a starting berth in Chester and he could make the most of his opportunity by finding the net against Philadelphia.
