Orlando City vs. New York Red Bulls: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

The MLS Cup playoffs have been dominated by underdogs so far, with the fourth and seventh seeds respectively making their way through to this Eastern Conference Final.

Orlando City will be hoping that trend does not continue as they are -120 favorites when they host the New York Red Bulls, who got the better of their rivals New York City in the last round.

Orlando City SC have never reached the MLS Cup final but they have a great opportunity this year after a strong finish to the season that has seen them reach the Eastern Conference finals.

Their round one series with Charlotte went to two penalty shootouts, one of which they won and one of which they lost, but a 2-0 victory in Game 1 was ultimately the difference between them progressing or going home.

They followed that with a narrow 1-0 win in the conference semifinals over an Atlanta team that was fresh from knocking out the number one seed Inter Miami.

The Lions have been red hot since the start of July, losing just three of their 18 games in that run, to recover from a slow start to the season which saw them take just one point from their opening four games.

Now they have the New York Red Bulls standing between them and a place in the MLS Cup final.

NYRB endured a league-high 14 stalemates in the regular season and their inability to turn those into wins looked like it may be costly to them in the playoffs.

However they shocked Columbus Crew with a 1-0 win and a penalty shootout victory to sweep them aside before facing their rivals New York City in the conference semifinals.

They secured a 2-0 win in that game but did give up 2.8 expected goals, so can be thankful that their opponents' finishing was not more clinical.

A big concern for Red Bulls fans has to be their record on the road in the regular season as they won just four of their 17 away matches, while they have conceded seven goals in their last three trips to Orlando.

They are facing what has arguably been the hottest team in the MLS since the middle of the season and may ultimately fall just short.

Take the Lions to secure a home victory at -120.

Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals (+110)

Orlando’s main success in the playoffs has come from their defensive solidity, as they have conceded just one goal in their four games.

However New York Red Bulls’ fast-tempo approach could test the Orlando defense and both teams could get on the scoresheet as a result.

Both teams have found the net in eight of NYRB’s last 10 games and they had the worst regular season defensive record of the Eastern Conference’s top seven.

Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals have both hit in four of the last six meetings between these two teams in all competitions, so combine those two selections in what could be an entertaining affair at +110.

Lewis Morgan to score anytime (+300)

If the New York Red Bulls are to have any success in this game, it is likely to come through one of their key attacking players, Lewis Morgan or Emil Forsberg. 

The pair combined for 22 goals and nine assists in the regular season, despite missing large time periods through injury and Euro 2024.

Expect them to be at the forefront of any success that NYRB do have and Lewis Morgan is the pick to score at +300.

The Scottish 28-year-old scored 13 goals in 26 regular season games and looks a big candidate to get his first goal of the postseason here.
