New York City FC vs. Inter Miami: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

New York City FC will fear an Inter Miami backlash on Saturday when they visit Chase Stadium to face a team trampled by the New York Red Bulls last weekend.

The Herons were knocked off their perch atop the Eastern Conference by FC Cincinnati, who beat the Bronx Blues 1-0 after falling to a 4-0 defeat in Harrison.

Both teams were severely weakened by international call-ups, and while Lionel Messi will probably still miss this one due to injury, the two coaches will have more options available to them this Saturday.

New York City FC vs. Inter Miami betting picks and predictions

Inter Miami -1 Handicap (+187)

Messi's hamstring looks likely to keep him out once more, but Gerardo Martino should be able to recall six players who missed last weekend's defeat due to international duty.

First-choice keeper Drake Callender will return with key midfielders Fede Redondo and Diego Gomez to toughen up the spine of the team while David Ruiz, Shanyder Borgelin and Israel Boatright will add some depth to the bench.

New York coach Nick Cushing showed his displeasure with the scheduling of MLS games during an international break after he was forced to do without six players in Cincinnati.

His team looked short on confidence and finishing power in a 1-0 loss that leaves them second-from-bottom in the Eastern Conference.

The Pigeons have lost all three of their away games this season and are yet to score a goal.

They did create some chances in Cincy, however, and might be able to break their duck away from home against a Miami team that has had some issues defending set pieces and keeping clean sheets.

But Martino's men have a lot of variety in their attacking play and should carve New York's defense open as much as Cincinnati did on their way to victory

The Orange and Blue were denied by two fine Matt Freese saves and a close offside call in the first half and should have increased their advantage after the break, too.

So, as the Herons have won three of their last six MLS games, and all have been by more than one goal, it should be worth taking them to cover a one-goal handicap here, too.

Leonardo Campana to score anytime (+175)

Miami striker Leonardo Campana has received more playing time during Messi's period of rest and recuperation.

The Ecuadorian has started the Herons' last three MLS games, scoring two and assisting another during that run of games alongside Luis Suarez in attack.

Campana's height and willingness to make runs behind the opponents' backline arguably make him a more complimentary partner for Suarez, and his characteristics could be useful against this New York defense.

The Bronx Blues play with three at the back, but their defenders got into a muddle for Cincy's goal last weekend and were caught out by a long ball over the top for another chance, which should have been scored.

Campana, who scored nine MLS goals last season and 11 the year before, looks to be in the kind of form to capitalize on any opportunities that come his way.

Inter Miami to score in both halves (+150)

New York's defensive malaise should be exploited by Miami in this matchup with the home side capable of scoring in both halves.

The Herons have scored before and after the interval in all three of their MLS wins this season, two of which were at Chase Stadium.

New York have been left to play catch-up in four of their five MLS fixtures after conceding the first goal and Cushing's side has been trailing at the break in three of those games.

Another slow start in this clash against a Miami team desperate to put last weekend's 4-0 thrashing behind them could open the door for Martino's side to grab at least one goal in each half.
