Netherlands vs. England: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

A place in the Euros final will be at stake when the Netherlands and England meet at BVB Stadion in Dortmund on Wednesday.

Both sides were made to work hard for their places in the semifinals, with the Dutch coming from behind to overcome Turkey 2-1, while England needed a penalty shootout to see off Switzerland following a 1-1 draw.

With so much at stake, this could be a similarly tight contest as both sides aim to secure a place in Sunday's final at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.

Netherlands vs. England betting picks and predictions

Draw (+187)

Despite reaching the final four, it is fair to say neither the Netherlands nor England have been at their best in this tournament.

Ronald Koeman's Dutch side only made it through their group as one of the best third-placed teams. After seeing off Romania with relative ease in the round of 16, they were perhaps fortunate to get past Turkey, with two goals in the final 20 minutes - one being an own goal - proving enough to just about get them over the line.

England's struggles have arguably been even greater, with Gareth Southgate's side having won only once inside regulation time, and that was their opening contest against Serbia.

Since then, the Three Lions have drawn with Denmark and Slovenia to finish the group stage. Then, they needed a 95th-minute equaliser before winning in extra-time against Slovakia and then relied on penalties to see off Switzerland.

It is, therefore, hard to see either side finding their best form at this late stage of the tournament and with so much at stake on Wednesday, it would be no surprise if the two teams cancel each other out.

This is England's third major semifinal in six years and the previous two were both level at the end of the regulation 90 minutes. The Three Lions lost in extra-time to Croatia at the 2018 World Cup before getting the better of Denmark in the same manner at the last Euros.

It has been a lot longer since the Dutch were last in a major semifinal - the 2014 World Cup to be exact - but that too ended all-square after 90 minutes and then extra-time before Oranje eventually lost on penalties to Argentina.

So history, both at this tournament and before, would suggest this game should be tight and nobody would be surprised if extra time and even penalties were needed to separate the two teams.

Declan Rice Over 0.5 shots on target (+250)

Given the attacking quality within the squad, England have struggled in the final third at this tournament, scoring just five goals and having considerably fewer shots (57) than the other three teams in the semifinals - Spain (102), France (89), Netherlands (74).

While the forward line has lacked a creative spark at times, one player that hasn't been afraid to get an effort off towards goal is midfielder Declan Rice, who has had six shots at the tournament, four of which have come during the knockout stages.

Of those six strikes, only two have been on target, but one of those was a spectacular long-range effort against Switzerland during the first period of extra-time.

Rice also managed 20 efforts on target for Arsenal during the 2023/24 Premier League season and as someone that isn't afraid to shoot, he is capable of registering at least one shot that draws a save in this semifinal.

Virgil van Dijk Over 1.5 fouls committed (+150)

No player has committed more fouls at this year's Euros than Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk, who has been reprimanded by referees on 12 occasions across the tournament, five more than any other player within the Dutch squad.

With England boasting the likes of Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka in their ranks, Van Dijk and his fellow defenders are likely to be kept busy and the skipper may be drawn into more than his fair share of challenges that lead to free-kicks.

Van Dijk picked up his first card at the tournament against Turkey last time out, but with all yellow cards having been wiped ahead of the semifinals, he no longer has the risk of being suspended for the final if he were to be booked again on Wednesday.

That should allow the Liverpool player to go into tackles with a bit more freedom, raising the prospect of him giving away at least two fouls.
