MLS Power Rankings Week 17: Inter Miami leave it late in Philly

Inter Miami had to work hard to claim the spoils at Philadelphia Union but they got the job done at Subaru Park to remain at the top of the Eastern Conference.

Let's get into our latest MLS power rankings after this weekend's action.

1. Inter Miami

W11 D5 L3, 1st Eastern Conference

Despite going down to a third-minute goal from Mikael Uhre and seeing David Ruiz shown a red card in the 68th minute, Inter Miami still managed to come away from Philadelphia Union with a 2-1 win.

2. FC Cincinnati

W11 D3 L3, 2nd Eastern Conference

Another three points for FC Cincinnati as they managed to win 4-2 on the road at San Jose Earthquakes to keep in touching distance of Inter Miami at the top of the Eastern Conference.

3. Real Salt Lake

W9 D7 L2, 1st Western Conference

A frustrating game at Montreal for Real Salt Lake with a goalless draw, but they remain at the top of the pile in the Western Conference with two defeats all season.

4. Los Angeles FC

W10 D3 L4, 2nd Western Conference

Denis Bouanga was the hero once again for LAFC as he scored a brace to earn them a 3-1 win at Orlando City to keep them in second place in the Western Conference.

5. LA Galaxy

W8 D7 L3, 3rd Western Conference

The biggest moves this week are the LA Galaxy, who shoot up from ninth last week to fifth thanks to their impressive 4-2 victory over Sporting Kansas City at the weekend.

6. New York Red Bulls

W8 D6 L4, 3rd Eastern Conference

A goalless stalemate at home to Nashville might seem like an opportunity missed, but it’s a point that takes New York Red Bulls up to third place in the Eastern Conference and sixth in our MLS Power Rankings.

7. Minnesota United

W8 D5 L4, 4th Western Conference

A disappointing weekend for Minnesota United saw them suffer a 2-0 defeat at Seattle Sounders. A bad game was capped off with Moses Nyeman being shown a red card in the 90th minute for the visitors at Lumen Field.

8. New York City FC

W9 D2 L6, 4th Eastern Conference

New York City found themselves down to 10 men as Mitja Ilenic was given his marching orders in the 39th minute against Colombus Crew, who went on to win the game 3-2.

9. Charlotte FC

W8 D4 L6, 5th Eastern Conference

Kerwin Vargas’ goal just before the break proved to be the difference as Charlotte earned a 1-0 home win over DC United.

10. Columbus Crew

W7 D6 L2, 6th Eastern Conference

Colombus Crew impressed on the road at Yankee Stadium to leave the Big Apple with all three points, thanks in part to Illenic’s sending-off.

11. Toronto FC

W7 D3 L8, 7th Eastern Conference

It was a weekend to forget for Toronto as they gave away three second-half goals to lose 4-1 at home to strugglers Chicago Fire.

12. Vancouver Whitecaps

W7 D4 L6, 5th Western Conference

It was a poor weekend for Canadian teams in general, as Vancouver came away from New England Revolution with a 3-2 defeat.

13. Colorado Rapids

W7 D4 L7, 6th Western Conference

Cole Bassett and Rafael Navarro struck on either side of half-time as Colorado Rapids earned a 2-0 win over Austin at DSG Park.

14. New England Revolution

W5 D1 L10, 15th Eastern Conference

Noel Buck, Giacomo Vrioni and Esmir Bajraktarevic all found the back of the net for New England Revolution as they notched up their fifth win of the season against the Whitecaps.

15. Sporting Kansas City

W3 D2 L5, 13th Western Conference

Sporting Kansas City are just hanging in on our MLS Power Rankings top 15 after what was a disappointing 4-2 defeat at LA Galaxy.

Despite goals from Stephen Afrifa and Robert Castellanos, the Galaxy always looked like coming away from this one with the three points.
