MLS Power Rankings Week 10: RSL extend unbeaten run to six games

Week 10 of the MLS has come and gone, and Real Salt Lake extended its own unbeaten run a win over the previously undefeated Philadelphia Union.

Here are the current power rankings for the season, with the two conference leaders taking the top two spots.

1. Inter Miami

W6 D3 L2, 1st Eastern Conference

Miami extended their winning streak in the MLS to three games with a comfortable 4-1 victory over the Eastern Conference’s bottom side New England Revolution, with Lionel Messi grabbing two goals and an assist.

The Herons conceded within the opening 10 minutes for the third successive game which may concern manager Gerardo Martino. However, their superb firepower in front of goal once again secured the points, with Miami also topping the goalscoring charts with 26 so far this campaign,

2. Real Salt Lake

W5 D3 L2, 1st Western Conference

RSL are one of the most in-form sides across the whole of MLS and increased their unbeaten run to six games with a hard-fought 2-1 away victory against the Philadelphia Union.

Alexandros Katranis’s 89th-minute winner from distance was enough to claim the all-important three points at Subaru Park, moving Pablo Mastroeni’s men to top of the Western Conference on goal difference ahead of LA Galaxy. Striker Cristian Arango is tied for second in MLS with eight goals.

3. FC Cincinnati

W5 D3 L2, 2nd Eastern Conference

After starting April with back-to-back losses, the Garys have returned to form with consecutive victories - the most recent of which coming in the form of a 2-1 win over the Colorado Rapids.

Strikes from Luciano Acosta and Corey Baird were enough to seal the victory for Pat Noonan’s men, who remain three points behind conference leaders Inter Miami with a game in hand.

4. LA Galaxy

W5 D3 L2, 2nd Western Conference

The Galaxy were bumped out of top spot in the Western Conference after a 2-0 surprise defeat at Austin FC - their second loss across their last four MLS games.

Their impressive form in front of goal keeps them in the mix at the top of the table, having scored 21 goals this season, and Greg Vanney’s side will be expecting to return to winning ways when they travel to face a struggling Seattle Sounders team in their next fixture.

5. Minnesota United

W5 D2 L2, 4th Western Conference

Minnesota are now just one point off top spot in the Western Conference after their 2-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City and their next fixture sees them travel to Atlanta United, where they will be looking to make it four wins from five on the road this season. They've been without star man Emanuel Reynoso, but Robin Lod and Tani Oluwaseyi have stepped up.

6. New York Red Bulls

W4 D5 L1, 3rd Eastern Conference

The Red Bulls extended their unbeaten run to six games with a 1-1 draw at home to Vancouver. Sandro Schwarz’s side have now drawn four of their last five and find themselves four points behind conference leaders Inter Miami. Lewis Morgan is the star with seven goals in 10 appearances.

7. Vancouver Whitecaps

W5 D2 L2, 3rd Western Conference

The Whitecaps could not hold onto their first-half lead against the Red Bulls but there was personal joy for Brian White who netted his fifth goal of the campaign.

8. Toronto FC

W5 D1 L4, 4th Eastern Conference

Last season’s bottom side continued their impressive start to the campaign with a late comeback win at Orlando City - with strikes from Tyrese Spicer and Prince Owusu securing a 2-1 victory.

Denis Bouanga’s injury-time strike secured all three points in a 3-2 thriller against Portland Timbers, keeping LA within three points of first place in the West.

W3 D6 L1, 5th Eastern Conference

The reigning champions were held to their fifth consecutive draw in the league after a goalless meeting with Montreal, but they remain one of just four sides to register a single loss.

W4 D3 L3, 6th Western Conference

The Rapids tasted defeat for the first time in over a month against Cincinnati last time out and face a tricky trip to New York City in their next MLS fixture, where they are yet to win from three visits.

13. New York City FC

W4 D2 L4, 6th Eastern Conference

The Pigeons made it three wins on the spin as Alonso Martinez’s injury-time winner sealed a 2-1 victory over Charlotte, moving Nick Cushing’s side up to sixth in the East.

14. DC United

W3 D4 L3, 8th Eastern Conference

A first-half brace from Christian Benteke helped DC United come from behind to beat Seattle Sounders and put an end to their recent three game winless run. Benteke is tied for second in the league in goals with eight.

15. Philadelphia Union
