City boss Pep Guardiola said after the defeat in Turin that he would not be surprised if the board decided to sack him, despite only signing a new contract in November.

His side's run included a 4-1 defeat at Sporting CP in one of Amorim's last games in charge of the Lions before heading to Old Trafford.

The Portuguese manager was unbeaten in his first three games in charge before losing 2-0 at Arsenal and then going down to Forest, but will have been pleased by the determination his team showed in the Czech Republic.

They will need plenty of that determination at the Etihad in a game between two truly dysfunctional teams. United are trying to begin another new cycle, while City could be at the end of theirs.

Guardiola's side have conceded at least twice in each of their last seven, while their neighbors have kept just a single clean sheet in Amorim's six games, conceding two or more in three.

They may have lost last year's FA Cup final, but City won August's Community Shield and both of last season's Premier League meetings against United.

Bruno Fernandes has been United's only consistent player during their years of travails and has stepped up again, recording six goal involvements in as many games following Erik ten Hag's departure.

His discipline has also improved, he has not received a booking since getting two yellows during October's 3-3 UEFA Europa League draw at Porto.

Fernandes has switched between central midfield and a more advanced role under Amorim and it is unclear where he will start on Sunday.

A feature of City's recent downfall has been how open they have been in midfield without the injured Rodri. 

That could suit Fernandes in attack, but he doesn't always like chasing back towards his own goal and might take a yellow card to halt the game if he gets the wrong side of the play, especially if he gets frustrated with his teammates and has a point to make.
