Inter Miami vs. Real Salt Lake Predictions

Inter Miami to win and both teams to score (+175)

Certainly not an easy home game against a side who reached the playoffs last season, but Inter Miami have the stars and the home advantage to win this one.

With the likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba all in their ranks, Miami have an ageing squad, but one that is packed with quality.

While the hosts look to have the attacking talent in their ranks to claim the three points in this MLS opener, their performances in preseason indicate RSL should have their moments in this game too.

Miami leaked goals at an alarming rate against Saudi Arabian opposition recently, losing 4-3 to Al Hilal and 6-0 against Al Nassr.

Teams are always going to be rusty in the early weeks of the new season and it’s hard to see this Inter defense keeping a clean sheet in this one.

With that in mind, Miami to send the home fans happy and both teams to score at +175 is worth considering.

Luis Suarez anytime goalscorer (+130)

Of course much of the attention will be on Messi returning to MLS action, but his former Barcelona teammate Suarez has the ability to grab the headlines.

The 37-year-old had hoped to join Inter sooner, but a deal was confirmed in December for the veteran Uruguayan striker to be reunited with the likes of Messi, Busquets and Alba.

Playing last season at Gremio in Brazil, Suarez looked as sharp as ever, scoring an impressive 26 goals in 53 appearances in all competitions.

Suarez will be eager to hit the ground running with his new club and the thought of him and Messi playing together again will keep defenders in the MLS up at night for the foreseeable future.

It would be little surprise to see Suarez score on his MLS debut and the former Liverpool and Barca striker is +137 to find the back of the net on Wednesday.

Inter Miami team news

Benjamin Cremaschi is a doubt to feature on Wednesday due to a hernia, while Facundo Farias suffered a cruciate ligament tear last month and is out for the foreseeable future.

The game will also come too soon for Serhiy Kryvtsov, who is still recovering from a sore hamstring.

Cruciate ligament issues mean the trio of Ian Fray, Franco Negri and Corentin Jean are all doubts for the arrival of Salt Lake.

Real Salt Lake team news

Pablo Ruiz is a doubt for RSL due to a meniscus issue, while Erik Holt will be questionable because of a recent shoulder injury.

Inter Miami vs. Real Salt Lake Stats

Inter were the third-worst team in the MLS according to points over the previous regular season, but with their recruitment over the offseason are one of the favorites for the title this term.

Miami ended the previous domestic campaign on a six-match winless run as Messi dealt with an injury. Inter Miami was a different team with him healthy, winning the US Open Cup and scoring four goals in four different games en route to winning the Leagues Cup.

Salt Lake managed to reach the opening round of the playoffs last season, but their hopes of the title were cut short after a penalty shootout defeat at the hands of Houston Dynamo.

Colombian forward Cristian Arango joined Salt Lake halfway through last season and scored six goals plus one assist in just 758 minutes over 11 matches.

With the departures of Damir Kreilach, Daniel Musovski, Jefferson Savarino, Jasper Loffelsend, and Rubio Rubin, Real Salt Lake lost 19 of its 48 total goals from last season. Arango, Diego Luna (five goals in 2023), Pablo Ruiz (four goals in 2023) and Anderson Julio (five goals in 2023) will be tasked with replacing that production.
