Inter Miami have gone four games without a win in the MLS but the star-studded side remain in the top seven of the Eastern Conference and will be seeking maximum points at home against strugglers CF Montreal.
It has been a mediocre start to the season for Inter Miami given the array of attacking stars at their disposal and they needed two late goals to salvage a 3-3 tie with the Philadelphia Union on Sunday.
However, this should represent a good opportunity for them to rediscover winning ways, given that CF Montreal are bottom of the Eastern Conference, having taken only eight points from their opening 15 assignments.
Montreal have won only one of their first 15 league fixtures and, with only 10 goals scored, they may lack the firepower to live with Inter Miami, whose frontline features former Barcelona stars Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
Inter Miami have been leaking goals all too frequently of late and it is vital that they snap a four-game winless run against CF Montreal, who are currently the worst side in the Eastern Conference.
The Herons have conceded three or more in all four of their matches during their winless run, losing 4-1 at Minnesota United and 3-0 at home to Orlando City amidst 3-3 draws with the San Jose Earthquakes and Philadelphia Union.
It means that Javier Mascherano’s side have kept only three clean sheets in 14 league games this season and, if they are to prevail, it is likely to be by overpowering their opponents.
Inter Miami have been breached in six of their seven home league matches and their record of 24 goals conceded in 14 outings is the worst defensive record in the top 10 of the Eastern Conference.
CF Montreal have scored only 10 times in 15 league fixtures but they have netted in five straight MLS matches and their latest 2-2 draw with Western Conference power Los Angeles FC was much more impressive.
Keeping the likes of Suarez, Messi and Celta Vigo loanee Tadeo Allende at bay is likely to prove difficult for Montreal. Inter Miami, who have seen 51 goals scored across their 14 league games, are backed to prevail in a thriller.
Messi and Suarez unsurprisingly grab most of the headlines for Inter Miami but fellow former Barcelona veterans Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba are two more vital components in the famous franchise.
Alba tasted most of his success with the Catalan giants playing as a wing-back, but he gets more license to get forward in MLS, and that makes him a regular assist contributor.
The 36-year-old has seven assists in 13 league appearances, the same tally that Suarez has managed, and in what should be a high-scoring fixture he could have a key role to play.
Suarez has always been a player renowned for a flaring temper and, having been booked four times in just 11 league appearances this season, he could be a card candidate against CF Montreal.
The wiley veteran can sometimes let his passion get the better of him and three of those four yellow cards have come in home games at Chase Stadium.
Suarez was also booked eight times in 38 appearances for club and country last season, so it may not take much for him to grab the referee’s attention.
