FC Cincinnati and New York City FC have one more game to settle their differences in the MLS Cup Playoffs after both made the most of home advantage so far.
FC Cincinnati were 1-0 winners in Game 1 at TQL Stadium but the New Yorkers corrected things with a 3-1 success at Yankee Stadium.
They'll find a winner after Game 3 back in Cincy on Saturday, with the New York Red Bulls awaiting after they stunned the Columbus Crew and sent shockwaves through the league.
Home advantage has proved pivotal in both installments of this tie so far, with FC Cincinnati 1-0 winners at home before a 3-1 loss in The Bronx, though that game was in the balance right until the end when Santiago Rodriguez scored a 97th minute penalty for the home side.
The problem for New York is translating their form at home to the road. They have managed just one win in their last 14 away games in all competitions and they need to buck that trend to keep their MLS Cup hopes intact.
Cincinnati have had the better of the head-to-head record in past meetings and are on a five-game winning streak against these opponents at TQL Stadium.
However, their shutout in Game 1 here is the only time in the last eight games they have managed a clean sheet. The hosts can win the day here but New York are capable of making a scoring contribution in defeat.
The entertainment factor could be high in this crucial showdown. FC Cincinnati have conceded multiple goals in five of their last seven games, and have also scored in each their last eight games with four of them featuring Over 3.5 goals.
That may be the case here with jeopardy for both teams in terms of their MLS Cup hopes.
An early goal – it took just 22 minutes in Game 2 – would tee this up to become a tit-for-tat showdown in which the teams may trade blows.
However it shapes up, the team that falls behind will have little option but to chase the game and the result may be goals aplenty.
Argentine forward Luca Orellano is making the most of his loan in the MLS from parent club Vasco de Gama in Brazil.
The 24-year-old scored in Game 2 to briefly give his side some hopes of a comeback. That was his first goal in five outings but prior to that he had scored six goals in eight starts
With his confidence back up now, he may hit another streak as he did in May/June when finding the net four times in six games.
