2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup: Best Bets, Picks, Predictions

The 18th edition of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, hosted by Canada and the United States, gets underway on Saturday evening with all 16 teams dreaming of lifting the trophy.

Since the tournament's inception in 1991, there have been just three different nations to have won the event, with defending champions Mexico leading the way with nine titles.

The US is next with seven, the most recent of those coming in 2021, while Canada's victory back in 2000 remains the only time they have come out on top.

It has proven to be a tough-luck story for Panama, which has lost in the final three times, while Jamaica fell at the last hurdle in 2015 and 2017.

Who will lift the trophy this year? Let's get stuck into our 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup predictions.

2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup betting picks and predictions

Best Bet: Mexico to win outright (+187)

There is nothing to separate Mexico and the USA in the outright market, with both priced at +187, but the latter have the pressure of being a joint-host and their form heading into the tournament is poor.

Mauricio Pochettino has struggled for consistency since taking the reins, winning five and losing five of his 10 matches in charge, with three of those defeats coming in the last five fixtures.

The USA's last two assignments have ended in defeat, going down 2-1 to Turkey and then 4-0 to Switzerland, and the squad just isn't clicking as the start of the tournament edges closer.

Given the doubts over the US, the best play is to back defending champions Mexico to land a record-extending 10th title and their sixth success in the last nine editions.

El Tri didn't concede a goal in the knockout stages en route to winning the 2023 title and they have added further silverware to their collection since, having clinched their first CONCACAF Nations League title in 2024/25.

That Nations League success helped make up for their disappointing 2024 Copa America, where they failed to get out of the group, and the confidence in the squad appears to have returned.

A strong defense is what Mexico has been the team's foundation over the years and they will once again hope that can provide a solid platform to build from, allowing the more creative players in the team to shine.

Raul Jimenez, Santiago Gimenez and Alexis Vega, who recently helped Toluca to the Liga MX title, offer plenty of attacking threat for Javier Aguirre's side, while captain Edson Alvarez provides the steel in midfield.

In Group A with Costa Rica, Suriname, and the Dominican Republic, Mexico looks to have a relatively easy route to the knockout stages and they can slowly build up before hitting peak form.

Panama to win Group C (-110)

Panama have been drawn in Group C alongside Jamaica, Guatemala, and Guadeloupe, and the three-time runners-up look capable of topping their section.

Thomas Christiansen's side has earned a reputation as a giant killer, having beaten the United States in the group stage of the 2024 Copa America before losing to Colombia in the quarters.

Los Canaleros also overcame the USA in the semifinals of CONCACAF Nations League A before being edged out by Mexico in the final, while they dumped the Stars and Stripes out at the semifinal stage of the 2023 Gold Cup on penalties.

There is plenty of desire and belief in this Panama squad, and while questions remain as to whether they can go all the way, top spot in Group C can be secured.

Steve McClaren has been getting some sort of tune out of Jamaica, winning eight, drawing four, and losing two of his 14 matches in charge, but there are enough doubts over the squad's strength in depth to suggest they may have to settle for second in the group.

Guatemala and Guadeloupe are likely to struggle in their quest to reach the knockout stages.

Saudi Arabia to win Group D (+250)

Saudi Arabia have been handed an invite to feature in the tournament and they can make full use of this opportunity by winning Group D, which includes the USA, Haiti and Trinidad & Tobago.

As mentioned earlier, the US are not in great form heading into the event and Saudi Arabia can take advantage of any slip-ups by heading into the knockout stages as pool winners.

The Green Falcons have played in the last two World Cups, and although the team failed to get out of the group on both occasions, they put in some notable performances.

Having beaten Egypt in the 2018 World Cup, Saudi Arabia were victorious over eventual champions Argentina in the 2022 edition's group stage, utilizing an expert offside trap to come back from 1-0 down to win 2-1.

Saudi Arabia have won four of their last six matches, one of those victories coming against Trinidad, and they look capable of topping Group D.
