Brazil are all but assured of a place in the next round of the Copa America, but they have to work to do if they’re going to top the group.

The Selecao have a three-point lead over third-placed Costa Rica, who need a six-goal swing if they are to beat Brazil to second. However, the draw between those two sides in their opener has left the five-time World Cup winners behind Colombia.

Colombia went into the tournament in fantastic form and have kicked things off with consecutive wins. They meet Brazil in their final game aiming to prove they are genuine contenders to lift the Copa America this summer.

Colombia’s perfect start to the Copa America shouldn’t have been a huge surprise, as they went into the tournament in stellar form. They are on a 25-game unbeaten run which stretches back to early 2022, making them the only side unbeaten in CONMEBOL’s World Cup qualifiers.

Colombia have won 10 consecutive matches after their strong early showing in the States. A 2-1 victory over Paraguay was followed up with a 3-0 demolition of Costa Rica, sending them into the last eight of the tournament.

While Brazil looked good against Paraguay, they conceded a lot of chances. That followed a 0-0 tie with Costa Rica, which suggests this Brazilian side is still coming together. They don’t look ready to challenge an Argentina team that look fantastic, while Colombia are arguably better placed to push the defending champions.

Colombia won 2-1 when these two sides met in World Cup qualifying in November and Colombia have hit another gear in the months since. They’ve scored an incredible 16 goals across their last five matches.

While Brazil won 4-1 against Paraguay, they won the shot count by a much more slender margin. They had 17 efforts compared to Paraguay’s 15, while Brazil shaded it 8-7 in terms of shots on target. That display suggests Colombia can continue this long unbeaten run.  

Rodrygo to score anytime (+300)

While Brazil are conceding too many shots at their own goal, it’s still encouraging that they are continuing to create openings. They are starting with Real Madrid Rodrygo operating as a false nine and he’s had plenty of chances early on.

While Rodrygo has yet to score at this tournament, he leads the side in terms of shots with eight efforts so far. No player has more shots on target than Rodrygo either, so his +300 price does look tempting given his impact to date.

For all Colombia’s impressive statistics, they’ve conceded six times across their last seven matches. A quality player like Rodrygo should find an opening, especially given how Brazil were moving the ball at times against Paraguay.

At the other end, Brazil do appear to have some issues when it comes to defending set pieces. They conceded four attempts from set pieces against Paraguay, while they also allowed opposition defenders to step up and cause problems.

Omar Alderete stepped up and hammered home from range, one of two efforts on goal the central defender has taken at this tournament.

For Colombia, Davinson Sanchez has been a surprise problem for opponents at this tournament. He has more shots than any other Colombian player, having four efforts on goal against Costa Rica alone.

Sanchez scored in their last game and at the huge price of +2200, he’s well priced to add to his tally against Brazil.
