Inter Miami have the chance to take some revenge on Atlanta United when the two teams meet in MLS on Sunday.

Lionel Messi’s side were knocked out of the MLS Cup playoffs in round one by the Five Stripes last season, a result that few saw coming. 

Inter Miami were expected to cruise through in the best-of-three series after winning the first encounter 2-1, but instead suffered two defeats in their subsequent matches.

It is the Herons that have started this season in the brighter form, with the Florida franchise unbeaten so far.

Atlanta United are without a win from their last two games and now face one of the most difficult fixtures for any MLS team.

Inter Miami to win (+170)

Messi made a return to the Inter Miami side in midweek, coming off the bench in the 2-0 win against Cavalier, having sat out their last three games. 

Javier Mascherano is carefully managing the 37-year-old’s minutes amid muscle fatigue concerns, but he was able to bring on his star forward with his side already 1-0 up and he received the perfect response. 

Messi found the net to seal a 4-0 aggregate victory in the CONCACAF Champions Cup clash, extending the team’s unbeaten start to the season to seven games, of which they have won six. 

With or without the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, the Herons are faring just fine, drawing one and winning two of their opening three MLS fixtures. 

After drawing 2-2 with New York City in a game in which they were reduced to 10-men after just 23 minutes, Inter Miami won 4-1 at Houston Dynamo and then beat Charlotte 1-0 last weekend. 

In contrast, Atlanta started the season brightly with a 3-2 win over Montreal, but have then drawn blanks in successive games. 

A 2-0 defeat on the road to Charlotte was followed by a 0-0 draw with the New York Red Bulls, leaving Ronny Deila’s team in need of a revival against their celebrated opponents. 

Atlanta United are unbeaten in six home MLS games against Inter Miami, but that run could come to an end in a match in which the visitors are the value underdogs, despite their better form.

As discussed, Atlanta United have not scored since the first game of the new season and everything points to their opponents being another difficult team to crack. 

In seven games this season, Inter Miami have kept four clean sheets, which includes shut outs in each of their last three outings. 

With all of their attacking talent, the Herons are associated with swashbuckling displays and plenty of goals, but Mascherano is operating cautiously at the moment. 

Due to their CONCACAF Champions Cup commitments, Inter Miami have a packed fixture list and the Argentine coach has been sparing with his use of the likes of Messi and Luis Suarez. 

Each of their last three games has seen a maximum of two goals scored and a repeat of this statistic looks overpriced. 

Tadeo Allende to score at anytime (+275)

Messi and Suarez naturally get most of the attention when Inter Miami are in town, but they look to have unearthed another worthwhile South American attacker. 

Tadeo Allende signed for the club on-loan from La Liga team Celta Vigo in January, less than a year after making the move to Spain.

The Argentine winger’s one-year loan deal could be made permanent if he proves to be a success and so far the signs are very good. 

Allende has scored in four of his last five games, which includes goals in the 4-1 win at Houston Dynamo and the decisive strike in last weekend’s 1-0 triumph over Charlotte. 

While Messi and Suarez are naturally going to spend plenty of time on the sidelines at their age, we can expect the 26-year-old forward to rack up plenty of on-field minutes. 

Allende is available at big odds to score again and he could become the value alternative to the big names in this Inter Miami team.
