American swimmer Simone Manuel has five Olympic medals to her name, but she will look to get another gold this time, having had to settle for two silvers and a bronze in the last Games.
Ahead of the 2024 Olympics, Manuel qualified as the fastest swimmer in the women's 50m, and her 100m time was good enough to see her qualify for the 4x100m relay team.
Manuel attended Stanford University and won NCAA championships in 2015 in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events before winning four medals at the 2016 Olympics.
In Rio in 2016, she set an American record while taking gold in the women's 100m freestyle before helping Team USA to gold in the women's 4x100m medley relay. She earned silver medals in the 50m freestyle and the 4x100m freestyle relay.
At the Tokyo Games, she was named a team captain for USA Swimming and swam the anchor leg of the 4x100m freestyle relay, in which the team earned a bronze medal.

Team USA is the second-favorite to win gold in the women's 4x100m, behind heavy favorites Australia.
Manuel qualified with the fourht-fastest time in the event, meaning she will be on the relay team but will not swim the individual 100m freestyle.
Her teammates include Tokyo 200m medley bronze medalist Kate Douglass, Tokyo 4x100m medley relay silver medalist Torri Huske, and former University of Virginia NCAA champion Gretchen Walsh in her Olympic debut.
